These 2 guys are WAY overpaid:
Robert Geathers- $6,233,333
Nate Clements- $5,500,000

...but the good news is we'll likely have around $45 million going into the offseason between the $30 million in cap space and over $16.5 million in salaries coming off the books. Maybe we finally sign a couple good FAs at positions of need? One can hope at least.

What I still don't understand though, is why long-term deals with MJ, AS, and GA aren't at least being worked on? We've got the cap space NOW to get them re-signed. C'mon Mike, don't drop the ball on this one.

Agreed about the long term deals, particularly with Geno, but I feel like we have spent some money in FA. To a certain extent, just throwing cash around doesn't build an outstanding team.

You're absolutely right, but that's not what I'm suggesting in the slightest. Once again, I'll use the infamous Philly reference as an example of how NOT to handle FA. However, teams like GB, NE, Pitt, and Balt have added key FAs over the years in order to sustain team success.

Lately, we've been signing a bunch of guys either at the tail end of their careers, or no-names/busts hoping they perform here.

T.O.
Coles
Roy Williams
Crocker
Newman
Clements
Derrick Harvey
Jamaal Anderson
etc...

There are good FAs out there almost every season that will both fit the Bengals schemes AND make a great impact. We can't keep going cheap hoping for a bargain because clearly, it hasn't worked.

Better hope they are. I think it's a lil ambitious of the Bengals' office for leaving ALL of them this late. I hope we do it right after our season ends. They'll re-sign with the team after they win a ring this year

The cap room this year is use it or lose it, and you know Mikey Boy is not going to disburse one nickel of the balance across the roster.

The new cap rule should be dubbed the Mike Brown rule - force teams (misers) to spend $ to be competitive as opposed to strict profitability.

You clearly have no idea how the system changes starting in 2013. If you did, you would realize that the Bengals are already close to the salary floor.

I still expect guys like Geno, MJ and Smith to be given extensions but the idea that a huge spending spree is required to get the number is complete fallacy.

Usually when a team is working on a new contract for a high-profile player, it's public knowledge. You'd figure one of the best RTs in the NFL and the best DT in the NFL would be getting some coverage of a new deal being in the works. Joseph's contract negotiations, for example, were quite public for most of the 2010 season.

I have heard that the agent of at least one of those players has been contacted about a long term deal.

Geno at under 700 K is an awesome deal (Devon Still is making more than him!)

Dalton makes less than his back up, both kickers, Skuta and our long snapper...thats why being a 2nd rounder under your rookie contract stinks.

And you know whats real sad about this leon hall is the highest payed guy on the team......And he realy stinks he is awful ....He gives up every 1st down on 3 down every big play we give up every touch down we give up.....The guy is killing this team and we are paying him the most of anybody to do it.....I like how after he gets burned he gets up and slaps his hands together like ah man should have got that one mannnn....And the sad part is the coaches think hes good

I mean you cant blame mike brown ...If you can get someone to play for less big ups to mike brown.....That saves some money so we can resign them ....And sign our 1 and 2 round picks...I think its good for the team that mike brown was able to do this .....Because where gonna have some contracts coming up and where gonna need the money to resign the players......And the reason we are low is because we build throw the draft.....The best way to build

Yeah we have been "building through the draft" for awhile and look how it's worked out...are you happy with this product?

Its the new CBA. Rookies are cheap so drafting will be more important.
