We are further below the salary cap then any other team. Of course, it's up to Mikey, but I say pretty good, and for GAWDS sake extend Dalton as soon as possible!

Re: A.Smith, M.Johnson
I don't think Dalton is capable to be extended until after his third season. The one person who needs to be the #1 priority even though his contract doesn't run out after this year is Atkins. That dude needs to be locked down with like a 7 year contract before his price becomes even more outrageous.

Eric Ried, S 37. Jamar Taylor, CB 53. Travis Frederick, C 84. Jamie Collins, OLB 115. Montee Ball, RB Man... FA has really made me edit the crap out of my Wishlist/Draft... and not really for the better. |

We don't have a GM or too many people that handle contracts and such, but I say we hire a few people for temporary positions to help get these dudes signed.
We have to hit the salary floor, so just throw the world at them. Mike isn't allowed to be his normal low-balling-self (he doesn't run all that anymore anyways), so it shouldn't be a problem.

I believe you're right, but she'd have trouble doing it all herself, and Mike says that he doesn't do much anymore, but I wouldn't be surprised if he told Katie what she can and can't spend.
Who knows, though, but, either way, we have a lot of FAs, so she needs help.

Re: A.Smith, M.Johnson
Chances are very good as this team has a strong history of paying performance and keeping their own..........cue the only real example against it....JJ.

I don't think $ was the primary factor in JJ's decision though. I'll look it up, but I remember the money being very close.

I am not sure how smart it would be to sign both considering these guys have still not proven to be upper echelon talent. If I had to choose between the two i'd go with andre smith. I think Michael Johnson will get overpaid by another team.

I think I remember him saying the offer was too late and he got tired of waiting, which goes back to my theory of us needing to hire a few people to get the deals out before the players can get away.

I think the appropriate question is what do Andre and MJ want? They can really tie MB's hands if both refuse to sign extensions and want to hit the FA market. Only one can be tagged and both are going to get paid regardless of what they decide. It's not like the choice is only MB's or the fans to make.
My prediction; neither signs before FA and MJ gets the tag because MB thinks Alexander can just coach up another O-lineman. It's possible MB isn't a big fan of Andre after seeing the chilly reception he gave him in Hard Knocks after his hold-out ended. He already turned down the option on Andre's contract during this past off-season.

I could see Dre wanting to go elsewhere and try his hand at LT, unless we pay him like one. Unfortunately, Andre was a #6 pick back went those cats were getting huge salaries. Appropriate contract may not be much more than he's getting now.
MJ will sign |

I will say the same chances another thread about signing Andre, MJ, and/or Geno gets made in the future, so pretty high...

I bet you she waits until we see other outrageous salaries being handed out for the same positions and then we'll be unable to afford them. If they would try getting them extended NOW, it may be possible

Hard Knocks was many moons and a completely different team in the past. All NFL players want to hoist the Lombardi and I think both these guys are smart enough to know they are part of a young special team right now.

Can you really say that a player will take less money because the Bengals offer a chance at a Super Bowl? Maybe once we win in the playoffs... |

When you don't extend players and let them hit free agency...you pay market value
