MLB trade rumors didn't mention Stubbs on their latest update, but I think that was a mistake.

Yeah, the first thing I saw didn't have Stubbs as part of the deal. It took a only a few seconds of googling to realize that I jumped the gun.

Sounds like we're keeping Cozart. Gregorius had promise, but maybe they're thinking that Hamilton could be ready in the next year or so.

Gregorious was all defense and has little to no pop in his bat.
In GABP, Cozart's alright power is huge. You can't hit a lot of gap doubles there.
It is why Hamilton's speed is so critical.

MLB trade rumors is reporting that we will get a 1st round pick if we make a qualifying offer to Choo after the 2013 season. So basically we traded Stubbs and Didi for 1 year of Choo, Jason Donald and a first round pick. Genius.

I'd take this trade just to get Stubbs out of Dustys options in the batting order. Sometimes I feel we need to protect dusty from himself when it comes to speedy players who have ZERO plate patience. Speed only matters if they get on base...

Good deal for the reds. While not the defender Stubbs is (Stubbs one of, if not the best defensive cf IMHO) choo is a big offensive upgrade. Now more revolving door at lead off. Sets up lefty, righty, lefty righty at the top of the order. Everybody pretty much slots into "their" spot in the order. I see choo, Phillips, votto, ludwick, Bruce, Frazier, cozart, hanigan and the pitcher's spot as the batting order.

And we didn't give up any pitching!

the decision will be interesting as he is in a contract year. good thing about it is he will ramoill ramp up his production for that contract and if he doesnt give us a fair price with his product - we will move billy hamilton in there after another year in the OF

I think it is great..Shin so choo is a good hitter and would be great in the leadoff spot maybe!!

Without question, this was the biggest hole in the line up. Reds were last at the lead off spot in rankings, be it batting average, on base percent etc. BP can handle the bat in the 2 hole. Votto can finally get some at bats with men on base. Still have Heisey to platoon some if needed also. I see we got a middle infielder in return also..infield depth may still be an issue with Rolen likely gone and Cairo possibly also, and of course now Gregorius.

Can't disagree with any of that post! That's how I would set up the lineup also. The only knock on him is ppl around the league don't see him as a cf, he has the arm for it from what I can remember. I guess we'll find out in spring training. I like this trade. Imagine what votto could do with some production in front of him.

I personally think that it was a completely necessary decision. Choo is a great lead off hitter, and on top of that he has power and discipline, which stubbs has one of those two (hint its not discipline). The most necessary part of it was getting rid of stubbs. The guy has tons of talent, but a brick for a head. If you ever listen to any of Stubbs interviews, you'd see what I mean. The impression he gives me, is that he is stuck in his approach to the plate, which is very flawed. What makes this dangerous, is that dusty is in love with players like stubbs, corey patterson, and the dreaded wily taveras. Dusty has gotten better about putting speedy guys with low obp at the top of the order, but it helps our chances of success when he doesn't even have the temptation of plugging a blackhole like stubbs in the lineup.
