A decent #2 WR would be more useful

Rex Ryan was obsessed with John Connor during Hard Knocks. I guess the show made him look better than he actually was. Hopefully he can play well for us.

I like the signing. One reason is the chip on this guy's shoulder. If he is the type that wants to prove that the Jets were wrong to release him then look out, cause this guy can hit. He also looks good in short yardage. Very excited to see him in the line up.

You guys are putting in some serious thoughts regarding the Jets personnel decisions.. I mean this is a team that keeps starting Mark Sanchez week after week, and then signed Braylon Edwards a week after he called the staff idiots..

if he's healthy and can pick up the game plan for next sunday then hopefully after the game we will know if there is a good chance he can make a difference and not just be a temporary fill in or backup to Pressley

Re: Bengals sign John Connor
Way to try and deflect being wrong. The losses over a decade have zero to do with the fact that the medical staff had been dramatically upgraded. You were wrong and talked smack without knowledge of what you were talking smack about. You can admit it because everyone knew it.

Not to the run game it won't.

Nothing opens up the passing game like a strong running attack.

FB is one of the easiest positions to step in cold. Receivers have to get down the timing with the QB. O-line, D-line, LBs, and DBs have to learn how to function as part of a group. The way the Bengals use the FB all he has to learn is a very small portion of the playbook, and all he has to do is block.
I am not suggesting that joining a new team in midseason is easy for any NFL position. The complexity of the game at that level is over all our heads. All I am saying is that it is easier for FBs. Especially in the Bengals scheme. He doesn't even have to work with Andy on handoffs. Pressley was a big reason our running game was so successful. I hope Conner can keep it going. |

Or move on...the 90's being so long ago and all.

Could be another in a growing line of great stories on this team--local kid comes in and saves the day...or something a little less cinematic, like gets the job done.

I wanted the Bengals to draft Conner when he was coming out of college, so hopefully he's over the injuries.
Hopefully he'll be the same level of improvement over Pressley as Robinson was over Cook.

Yes it would.
A #2 WR would make the passing game more dynamic thus making us not have to rely on the run game as much and make teams play nickel and dime more often meaning our running backs would be fresher late in games and would not face nearly as tough of defenses.

I saw the guy play in college, and watched a Jets game, or two. He is a solid FB, and was considered a top notch FB, till the kneee and hammy.
That said teams don't keep FBs who can't play right now. The Jets moved on. Conner is an improvment in the hands department, over Pressley, and is about even in the blocking, he maybe a little less as he tries to blow people up. He is a half step faster in games. I think this maybe an over all improvment, with a little less in blocking, if he still always goes for the big hit. However it would be real nice to see Conner put a few squeelers on their backs.

No doubt!
I don't know why people are so obsessed with what happened two decades ago. It should be pretty obvious to any objective person that Mike Brown has totally rebuilt the disastrous situation that Paul Brown left him with. |

I like this signing. If only they would sign one player in particular. (see sig for details)

This is a very good thing. We need a real FB and thankfully we have one. The two year deal is somewhat of a surprise but that too is good.

At least he won't show up fat and out of shape attempting to be the starter like Jeremy Johnson did.

The 2 year deal isn't that surprising. It likely means Pressley is out for a year, and not just the rest of the season. I'm not sure he will be ready to start the season health wise.
