Jay Gruden & Marvin Jones Steelers Game #2 (Return of the Bengals)

If I remember correctly. Going into the first Steelers game, Gruden had a game plan and a huge package set up just for Marvin Jones to execute against the Steelers.

Jones got injured before we could take a snap and the Bengals still held their own at that point. They faltered in the 2nd half.

The Defense was not playing at the high level its playing at right now. Yes they didn't do so great at getting to Foles in Philly! But Philly got a better O-line than the Steelers.

So now it comes full circle. The Defense is playing well. Marvin Jones is healthy. Gruden can now execute the packages he had for Jones against the Steelers the first time.

I can't wait too see what he has planned. If Jones can hold on to the ball...well if all our receivers can hold on to the ball. It might just be the game we are all hoping for.

Here is to hoping the O-line shows up. (Please let Robinson start)

IMO this should be Orlsen Charles break out game.

I dont trust MJones enough Charles though will let us break Gresham out wide etc.

Also more Screens to Hawkins. (maybe running behind 2 TEs on one side)

I like the idea of using Charles more.
As for the screens to hawkins. I haven't seen those in a while.

A draw play...a bubble screen to anyone...

I dont care who they give the ball to, as long as it gets in the endzone. We need TDs ot FG if we have any chance of putting the Steelers away.

Charles certainly doesn't nee to be on the return team lol.

However he has shown solid hands and speed I would love to see this be his break out game

Robinson is a must start athleticism and aggression over knowledgeable vet for this game it will be about the fire against the steelers d not how many times you have seen it and lost lol.

Orson Charles has been set out to breakout for the last 14 weeks now. The Guy has 8 catches all season. Charles is about the 5th read for Dalton when he is in. We knew coming into this season that he was abit raw and he will take some time to develop

M. Jones has the talent, he just needs to find a way to get open and catch the ball, once
he learns this we will have 3 WR's for the future that will give Defense's fits similar to what
we had back in the Chad, Housh, Henry days.

The thing is we have much better TE's now which will make us even more dangerous in the
future. Grude needs to find a way to use these guys and Dalton needs to be patient and
accurate. The young O-line is also promising even if they had a tough game lately.

Has Marvin ever went guns blazing against the Steelers? It's normally up the gut for 2 yards. Up the gut again for 3 yards. 3rd and 5 a short pass for 3 yards in space in hopes a WR can fall forward for 2 to pick up the 1st down....

Exactly, Dwayne Harris was effective when utilized. The first thing I thought when I saw that was getting the ball to hawkins.

IF Marvin Jones isn't getting the job done, I'd be fine with increased play from Charles. Big target that can catch and run.

Ive been calling for Charles since Sanu went down... Big body that can make contested catches over the middle.


IMO marvin jones should be used like Chris henry was once used on this team.

Exactly!!!! Settling for FG's isn't going to cut it. One way or another, we need TD's.

I think the biggest difference in the D line is the return of Pat Sims. That has helped our D line, and should make a big difference this game.

Marvin Jones has not been used correctly. He is speedster, force the CB back, by going deep on an early play. Then have Jones run comback patterns, till the CB adjust, then run a stop and go. After the CB is force to back off him, hit him for a few quick screens, or slants.
That should aslo be the game plan for AJ Green.
We need to use Gresham, Hawkins, and Charles over the middle, behind the LB.

The key to doing all of that is Trevor Robinson, the kid is better than Cook, even if Cook has the 5 year contract. Start Robinson, establish the run, while stretching the D early, then work the shorter routes when they adjust.
If the Steelers start to blitz, go with a screen to BJGE, or Herron. I think with his quickness Herron could make a screen a very dangerous play. Once he gets in the open, he has the wiggle to get by a player, or two BJGE could not.

I think breakout is a bit over used. I do think situationally in two tight end sets he has value against a slot nickle or an lb. He is a big body and a guy that can get separation.

As an aside I think offensively the bengals need to run early and well. Get the bracket off of AJ and create play action. Trot doesn;t have the wheels he used to and getting him to commit to the run is key

Charles was terrifying to watch on Special Teams before halftime last week, I hope he goes anywhere but Special Teams this week
