DWrights Mock Me #1 (Out of the Box)

I started last year with an Out of the Box mock so I thought I would keep it going this year.

Trade Jermaine Gresham for a 2013 3rd and a 2014 5th.(He said what!? Yes I did, TE is a position of consistency. Gresham is in his 3rd NFL season and is still very inconsistent blocking and receiving.)

I like the idea if you could pull that off but I'd want a 2nd and a 3rd in this years draft. Tyler Effert is a great talent with adequate blocking ability and a heck of a reciever both inline and outside. A guy who doesn't hold the rock like a loaf of bread and catches about everything. That would be a hard sell on these boards . Just a guess.lol

Surprised I havent gotten more flack for saying trade Gresham. I don't think he is worth a 2nd round pick I originally wanted to go with a 3rd this season and a 3rd 2014.

Eifert is a great prospect, but he really needs to spend some time in the weight room because his blocking really isnt a technique issue that I can see its more of him just flat out getting blown up. But put him in the bunch formations and split out like the Bengals do with Gresham and ya hes going to make some catches way above DB's heads. I love the way he tracks the ball in the air and goes and gets them at the highest point.

Worst I have seen yet. Trade Gresham just to draft a guy not as good as Kyle Rudolph. PASS. Gresham will be 25 next year. young 24 year old types are only so consistent in the NFL.

Dwayne Allen (rookie)- Dominate blocker and converts 3rd downs....He has 20 less catches than Gresham and only like 5 less First Downs. Hes a huge reason the Colts are doing so well.

I understand that the Bengals haven't had a decent TE in years, but there's no reason to call Gresham anything more than he is average at best.

Gronk - would be snagging catches no matter who the QB happens to be
Heath - Has been a huge reason behind the Steelers success over the last 7 years. You know how everyone is like the Steelers O line ***** they wont be able to block anyone. Well thats because you have Heath Miller on the edge handling some of the Best DE's in the game solo. Not only that but on 3rd down he chips as well as anyone in the league.(Leonard is the only person I've seen chip better) and snags down 3rd down conversions.
Owen Daniels - Makes his QB look better than he is by converting a ton of 3rd and shorts.
Dennis Pitta - Is the same way he makes Flacco look better than he is by making great catches in traffic. He is also VERY good at blocking for screen plays.
Dwayne Allen - This guy is something the Colts can talk Luck up all they want but this is the man that's making things happen. He has converted all of their "crucial 3rd downs" and is a better blocker so far this season than Heath Miller and thats saying something.

Gresham - Drops all 3rd down passes. Never catches anything in traffic. Can't block for a screen play. He's good after the catch, but alot of the time tries to hard and fumbles. He is a better in line blocker this season and has cut back on his false starts, but only when the play goes the direction intended he never seals his guy for the cutback lane.

Nothing makes me shake my head more than trading away one of our better players and then using the pick in the first round to replace him.

This team is in WINNING mode, not rebuilding mode. We need to keep our young guys, not replace them.

If we traded Gresham away and then took a tight end, explain to me how that improves the team.

I would bet a lot of money that the only guy that a GM would take in front of Gresham would be Gronk. I'm sorry, but to call Gresham average is a joke.

Everyone says how much "talent" they have on Offense but its usually the offense losing games not the defense and yet everyone wants to spend the first 3 picks on defense. Gresham doesnt run great routes, drops balls, inconsistent blocking, holds, and fumbles. He is also completely irrelevant in the red zone where he should be thriving. I would call that average.

Well, I guess I'm not everyone. I would have no problem drafting the following guys with our first 3 picks:

Chance Warmack
Barrett Jones
Robert Woods

However, the chances of that happening are slim to none. I suppose there are people that think we have enough talent on offense, but it still remains to be seen if we have anyone who can fill the #2 role.

I don't think Gresham is the problem.

We have a TE with more upside than Eifert. I would rather use our first round pick to address a greater need that create a need, use a first round pick to address it, then use a 2 or a 3 to address a need we could have addressed in 1.

I'll give you two of the five. Gronk and Heath yea. I'd take Gresham over the other three any day.

Gresham is a top 10 TE in the NFL easy. It is only his 2nd season with Dalton. In Heath Millers 2nd season with Ben he had 34 catches and less than 400 yards.

Like I said earlier. The guy is young. Players are known to get better as their careers progress. After all the years of Reggie Kelley and guys like Daniel Coates I cherish having a TE like Gresham. You should too.

He didnt say which TE I would take he said which one is better. Of course you keep Gresham over alot of the older TE's. But all those guys I listed are playing better than Gresham. I really do hope he gets better, but this is his 3rd season in the NFL this is what the Bengals are going to get with him. I do agree it is nice having an average TE than the below average block only TE's we've seen over the last 10 years, but that the bengals shouldnt keep looking for great instead of average.

Next year they need to draft a high round OT pick because while Whit is playing at a high level his knee has gotten worse over the last 2 seasons.

Do not like. TE is not a need, and Gresham is a good player. "Oh he drops balls". So has AJ Green lately.
"Oh, he fumbles". BJGE has more fumbles this year than Gresham.

Gresham is 9th in the NFL with YAC. He has A LOT of upside. Great redzone target. Great in mismatches. More talented than Eifert by far. Heck, Eifert isn't even as good as Rudolph.

Although, you've gotten enough about the Gresham trade, so I'll go to the other draft picks. Love the Rambo and Jenkins picks. Great talent and could easily be steals in this draft.

I do like Minter as well, with Mosley not coming out, Minter could be a very good addition and fills a need.

Not that big of a fan on Wood, but that could be because I really want Giovani Bernard. But I digress.

Obviously, I disagree with the Gresham thing, but other than that, pretty solid draft. Would like to see a RB be taken higher, but still good nonetheless

I don't know if you watch the Bengals at all, but even if you excuse the fact that Gresham's a damn good tight end, we also have this guy named Orson Charles who is pretty good. We don't have many needs, so it's just upgrading some positions, but why would you want to add another guy to a position of strength that also has good depth?

The Minter pick just depends on what we want to do with our linebacker situation but I don't see us picking him.

Rambo's good but I'd rather have Jefferson.

Fuller is ok, but we have Hall, Kirk, and Jones, so how many do we need?

I do like the Davis pick because he's a good number two with his size but can also make a big play.

Overall, I'm not a fan.

Not much of a fan of this either, no need to trade gresham and then draft 2 TE's(although I do like taking Williams to replace Quinn).All others their are better options in each round.
