Default The NRA has spoken...

http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news...-violence?lite

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/22/us...t-schools.html

There you have it ladies and gentleman.

I think the NRA did themselves no favors with that statement. They are a complete joke. Thoughts?

We had them at my high school.... they were called local cops and NY State Troopers. Didn't stop us from going to school blazed though, but no weapons for sure.

I agree with this statement.

BUT, I think the NRA is right by saying that we need armed guards in schools. We cant get rid of guns or crazies, and therefore,....crazy gunmen will still be around. Something has to be done to try to stop these things from happening, and I don't see any better options at the moment.

Wow. Armed officers at every school? Sounds expensive and I'm not sure it really gets you the benefit you want (there were armed guards at Columbine). And then they blame the media, video games and music videos for the shootings. Way to overtly try to steer people away from any gun control regulation, NRA.

Mostly it just sounds like they had a train wreck of a press conference.

This has nothing to do with the New York Times opinion on the issue, im talking about the actual facts of what the NRA said in their statement today.

I guess I am included into that "everyone" group even though my opinion on the matter is completely different. Funny how that works...

My issue is with the NRA and how they blame everyone but themselves. Their only solution to this entire thing is for people to buy more guns, arm more people, and fight fire with fire.

Who's paying for all of these armed guards? The NRA? Me? You?

If you want to tax the hell out of guns and ammo and pay for it that way then fine. I still dont think its the answer though and I think its a complete cop out by the NRA.

NRA arent the best public speakers...

But the parents here at my work were happy to find out they would be having armed guards at their schools (before this was announced)

This is what people want. They want guns around there kids all the time.

but in truth the only thing that will stop a homicidal gun totting maniac is another one with better intentions.

Their statements today were a complete joke. Cmon man.

From the statement:

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” he said at a Washington press event, adding, “With all the money in the federal budget can’t we afford to put a police officer in every single school?”

Yep, all that money in the federal budget, right? While we are at it, why dont we just buy all the kids bullet proof vests, helmets, and bullet proof shields.

Again, how exactly do you know this is what people want? Because its what a couple of parents at your work wanted? Because its what you want?

Stop assuming the greater population wants armed guards at their kids school.

You and I would be paying for them. Not saying that I want to, but it may be necessary. In a perfect world, we could just get rid of guns and promote higher mental health standards and solve the issue that way. BUT......we don't live on a rainbow, and guns and crazy people are here to stay. Therefore, I think that we need to find another solution to the problem. Do I think this is a perfect solution? No. But it's the best one at the moment, IMO.

So...now that I've agreed with the NRA, I must go take a shower to wash off the douschbaggedry.

Funny you mention this. Yesterday, I was reading something about new backpacks designed with kevlar lining. Supposedly, parents all over the country are snatching these things up now.

Honestly, If I have to send my child to school with a Spongebob backpack that doubles as a bulletproof shield, then I just won't send him to school.

Kevlar book covers. If some vioence breaks out, you have a 1 square foot shield. I'd like to think that these don't exist, but I can almost guarantee they do. If not, I'm inventing them.....capitalism.

This could be one solution, tax guns and ammo, like cigs, alcohol, and gasoline, might slow it down some.

Y'know, while $5k is a bit overboard, Chris Rock might've been onto something in that stand up of his...

I also think it is a dam shame (and just a terrible idea in general) to have armed officers at every school.
