This dude has 6 sacks and looks like a beast in limited snaps.
If it were up to me, I would think about letting MJ get a big contract somewhere else. Keep Gilberry and save $ for other big contracts we have coming up (Andre, Geno, AJ, Dalton). Thoughts?

MJ's not going to get a big contract, IMHO. He's not all that. Anyone can see that from watching the games. But I like Gilberry, too.

Part of the reason Gilberry has looked so good, was he is rested.
Most games MJ plays the most snaps of any D lineman we have. I say sign MJ, and Gilberry to good contracts. Don't mess with a good thing, unless you know you can improve on it.

Sorry but I disagree. I think MJ is a very good DE. He has improved every year as a pass rusher while playing the most snaps the past 2 yrs in our vaunted Dline rotation. And not to mention how well he plays the run. And to be honest, I don't think he has reached his peak. We will be very sorry if we are not able to resign him. Just keep in mind he goes against the best opposing offensive lineman every game. WHODEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Gilberry has been a very good surprise this year, but he won't replace MJ. If we're going to get rid of an end, it had better be Geathers because he's nothing more than average. MJ made some plays tonight and so did Gilberry. Sign both, and let Geathers go.

Re-sign Gilberry...Give Geathers the boot.

With 6 sacks here, and the success he's already had in KC, I don't think we can keep both MJ and Gilberry. They're both going to get serious raises after this year. I just think MJ is going to be more expensive than Gilberry.

Now you're talking! I think Robert Geathers is a good defensive end but in this league a team needs great defensive ends to compete. Wallace Gilberry is a gamer; I like him a lot and he brings some swagger to the defensive line. So does Michael Johnson when he plays the right technique.

14.5 sacks coming from RE is good. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's the guy you re-sign over MJ tho.

Geathers is like the one veteran member of this team. I think it's time for him to think about retirement, I'd like to see him retire as a Bengal than to get the boot.

Or we can...just sign our whole D line again and be a top 3 sack team again :()
People always want to change stuff....well i fyou dont have to why do it? MJ isnt gonna command much money. Hes a young player whose only getting better so he'll get a good offer but definitely somethin we can match....As I always say tho...if someone goes for him with a CRAZY offer....just give a salute and say bye

Just turned 28. 60 games 19 sacks 5 forced fumbles 5 fumble recoveries Michael Johnson About to turn 26 62 games 20 sacks 1 forced fumble 2 fumble recoveries I don't see what the big difference is from a pass rushing perspective. People scoff at the idea because they're so familiar with MJ, and they feel Gilberry came out of nowhere to have this fluky season. What they don't realize is that Gilberry was great in KC before he came here: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...s-city-chiefs/ If we can bring back both, then great. I just feel like Gilberry will be a better deal. We do have some big contracts coming up soon (Andre, Geno, AJ, Andy).

Gillberry definately needs to be resigned. Love his impact during thr game. MJ has played well this year. I dont find him special though. I could see him walk and we draft a DE first round. But keeping continuity on D helps.

This. Takes DE out of the draft conversation unless someone falls into your lap.

Kind of reminds me of Frostee Rucker. He couldn't stay healthy, and wouldn't get a ton of snaps, but when he did, all he did was produce.
Great pick up and makes for terrific leverage when dealing to re-sign MJ this off season.
