I guess looking downfield doesn't mean completing a pass.

Pretty ironic that your clutch QB Ben costs the Steelers their season with that blockhead throw.

Andy is a tough kid. He brought the Bengals to the playoffs two years in a row, especially last year, when EVERYONE thought the Bengals were going to be 4-12 again.

I would take one Andy over 12 RGIII's or Cam Newtons.

It's only his fricking second year! Could Boomer, Ken Anderson, or Carson have done this?

Doubtful.

I don't know. I was impressed by Andy's patience in the pocket in the second half.

Pittsburgh was 15-1 in Big Ben's rookie year (although I can't recall if he started every game or just most of them).

Dan Marino set nearly every major passing record his 2nd year and got to the Superbowl.

So, um, that's not much of an argument.

A throw it took, what, FIVE TIMES to get right? If Dalton had been more on target the rest of the game, that throw wouldn't have been necessary.

So yeah, it was a clutch throw. But it was an absolutely horrible offensive effort by both the passing game and the running game.

I've been Dalton's biggest supporter, and his numbers mostly suggest he's a bit better than last year, but of late he looks like more of the problem than the solution. We're going into the 2012 playoffs like we did the 2009 playoffs--with a good defense, a fair rush game, and a bad passing game.

Maybe Dalton needs next week off just to work on deep passes with his receivers (if Balt continues to dominate NY which will the outcome of next week wholly irrelevant).

I bet I can soon name TWENTY teams that would happily trade places with Dalton and Cincy.

While Dalton definitely is struggling and would have been the goat had Cincy lost (actually, I blame Gruden more), this was a win that got Cincy in the playoffs...

...with a QB who has NEVER failed to make the playoffs in his NFL career.

I think its going to take some time but Dalton can be a top 10 qb. I look at the throw he made on first and 10 from his own 10 at the end of the game, he dropped back read the field stepped up in the pocket and hit Gresh on the money. The throw to AJ couldn't have been more money, we got to be patient with him. Look at Drew Brees 2nd year stats and compare them to Dalton's.

Yea maybe I'm crazy but I don't actually think Andy had a bad game as much as Pitts D had a good game. Unlike some games I don't recall many bad throws. And speaking of Brees second years stats I noticed the similarity to Andys numbers myself.

I see a TON of similarities between the two, a little under sized, questions about arm strength and know as a field general coming out of college. The kid knows winning, and I hope the fans can give him another 2 years to really develop.

Dalton is his 2nd year. He's not a Luck,RG3 or even Big Ben.
He's Andy.and for now he's our QB.
He can be frustrating at times. But today he made a play when we needed it the most.
he still has ceiling to reach. He's far from a finished product.
wait till he gets Mohamed Sanu back.

I see a lot of potential in him to be great. He made some nice throws that were contested down field today that ended up as incompletetions due to good coverage. In a season or two we'll see how high his ceiling is but as Impactplaya said he has a lot of room to grow. If he can even approach the production of Brees I'll be ecstatic. For a 2nd year guy his stats are actually really good.

Andy needs to be surrounded by weapons. He is not going to be able to create like some quarterbacks (Ben, Romo), and he doesn't have a cannon arm that can squeeze it into tiny places (Stafford), and he has not found a great system (Manning, Brady).

He needs legit pieces that we don't have yet:
- a #2 WR (Sanu might be that, but I think he'll be better in the slot)
- a home run hitter in the backfield

As long as the defense keeps playing lights out we have a chance.

BTW, your title could have also read, "Dalton throws for 278 against leagues best pass defense" or "Lack of Run game almost ground Bengals".

Like i said..I give Dalton 2 more years...his deep ball accuracy has to be the worst in the league.

Dalton did not have a good game, but he did what was needed to win.

We had no run game today. I blame that on Cook being back at Center. That has hurt the entire O line.
Any other blame for lack of a running game is on BJGE, for being too slow to get to the outside, and Gruden for not having any runs, but when in clearly running formations.

Dalton was also under a lot of pressure today, 5 sacks I believe. Cood was also pushed right back into Dalton all game long.

Dalton should have been better today. The throw to Jones in the end zone was a TD, if Jones did not have to wait on an under thrown ball. Dalton also missed more than one throw today.

Still, when given the chance, he got the completion and won the game.
That is more than most veteran QBs can do, and Dalton is only in his second year.

No, it's really not. NFL QBs typically complete around 35% of their deep throws. Dalton is par for the course. He threw a pair of beautiful deep passes today, but the coverage was there. Open your eyes.

...and Green dropped one.

Regardless, Dalton isn't performing like a good QB. Sure, he makes key throws late in games sometimes, but if he was more consistent throughout the game those throws wouldn't really be necessary.

69.0
That's his QB rating the last 4 games. If it weren't for the outstanding play of the defense(only giving up 12ppg in the 3 wins), the Bengals wouldn't be in the playoffs.

Bottom line, Andy's gotta step it up if we're gonna go anywhere in the playoffs.

Edit: change your avatar back.
