I couldn't give two shats if Marvin goes for it on 4 and 22. Their odds aren't any better as a team if they go for it on 4 and inches. This team and coaching staff stinks, no suprise.

If Marv kicks the field goal on 4th an 22, maybe 3 points.
If Allen doesn't hold, at least three points. If Green doesn't fumble, probably a FG....

Can we put the D in the place of O? Only D and ST score points anyway

I don't know how that call was made, but Marvin Lewis bears 100% of the responsibility.
It was PATHETIC. A FG attempt wasn't a gimme, but Cincy's made longer with this kicker. I'd say a 40% chance of success or better. Converting 4th and 22 has to be less than a 5% chance of success. And given Dalton couldn't hit that pass (or a receiver catch it) at any point in the game before the last offensive play, it was the most IDIOTIC CALL I've ever seen. I want Lewis's head for the INEPT calls all through this game. But at this point I am only 100% behind the REMOVAL OF GRUDEN. Gruden is godawful. He is WORSE every time we play a team for the second time in a season (this was his first win in SIX attempts including last year). This effort was the worst offensively yet--and there is no argument that the offense did anything to win this game (numerous turnovers, horrid 3rd downs, no rush attack, etc). Aside from on FG drive in the 2nd quarter, Gruden's O had just ONE PLAY that mattered--the completion just prior to the game-winning FG. Cincy can't keep going in this direction. Dalton & Co. was absolutely WRETCHED against a defense that was injured, battered, worn out over the past month. We can give Pitt some credit, but not much given how many poor plays the Bengals made. It's been two years and the experiment hasn't worked. It's time to start shopping for an OC. |

Hind sight 20/20....almost came down in bounds...would've been huge and everybody would've been loving the call (and probably credited Gruden) if it was converted. We won. Stop crying.

Just because you get lucky, doesn't make it smart football. The D pulled Marvin Lewis' butt out of the fire today. If the Bengals would have lost, Lewis should have been fired.

I was in a bar watching the game. I couldn't hear the commentary. Why didn't Marvin challenge the catch by AJ on this play? I thought he was in.....maybe I just didn't see it right.

It was a bizarre call. For a second i thought they 'forgot the down', because Dalton got an intentional grounding on that series, and there was loss of down on the penalty. I was quite surprised they went for it, especially on a short field, with that much to go, in the red zone where the defense has a advantage. To their credit they almost got it.

I am sooooo confused at the train of thought here with some folks...........
WE WON THE DAMN GAME Who cares if we went for it on a 4th and 52????? Its irrelevant now. Geez, I thought I was pessimistic at times.............some of you make zero sense. So, by this logic......some would be happier if we didnt go for that 4th and 22............but LOST |

You take advice from Tom Brady, this is why you don't stay "happy" after winning a game.

Yes this call was a head scratcher, but the stance I'm taking is that it was somewhat awesome to me that they had a play that almost got the first down. Not a screen or a draw but a down the field play that showed a sheer aggressiveness of the team. Too many times in the past, I've wanted the Bengals to be unpredictable and go for it in certain situations. This team has run fake punts, went for it on fourth down and used more trickery this year than any team I can remember in years. I applaud that aggressiveness. Lastly, did you ever think that maybe, just maybe the coaching staff had their finger on the pulse of the team during this game? The defense was playing lights out and they didn't shy away form putting the load on the defense during the whole game. And though I know we have seen them fold too many times in the past, this time THEY DIDN"T. So before you drown yourself in the gloom and doom of what could have happened, I think you need to wallow a bit in what DID HAPPEN. The Bengals sort of let it all hang out and went for the gusto. In the end they came out the victors..If you can't find some joy in that then maybe there's just no pleasing you.
