Congratulations!!! I have found with my kids that the most important thing seems to be just as simple as just making sure their life is stable. Don't move them around a lot, keep routines, and protect your marriage. If you are stable, they are stable. It also frees up their minds to concentrate on who they are and their talents.

My wife and I had our first child in 1977, but some things haven't changed in 35 years. Give them roots. Give them wings. Don't give them everything they ask for. Some of the best things in life come your way through hard work and dedication. Give them a strong work ethic and a sense of pride in their family name. Show as much pride in them after their 100th strikeout as you would on their game winning touchdown pass. Don't miss the moments. Big milestones are wonderful to witness, but so is Saturday morning bath time. Why thank you, my friend! That's some nice advice you got there. I think I'll keep these things in mind along with the advice that many other people have given to me. A lot of things that people say seem to be the same across the board. Hopefully, I get it right.....I think I got it.

I have only this advice. Spend as much time as you can with your children. It goes by very, very quickly. My son is 5 and I feel like he was just born yesterday.

The one things kids value more than any toy or TV show is your attention. Sounds simple enough, but with the demands of everyday life sometimes that is one of the hardest things to give them. But give it to them as much as you can while you can because there will eventually come a day when they don't have time for you.

I had my second daughter when my first one was two-and-a-half. It was tough for the firstborn to no longer have the undivided attention of her parents when her younger sister came along. I'll never forget one day when I came home from work and took her on a walk. We saw squirrels, and butterflies, and some of the first flowers of the spring. When we got home I asked her what her favorite part of the walk was, and she said "You." Moments like that will choke up even the biggest hardass.

Well, I do have one. I learned this the hard way.

Putting sugar in kool-aid that already came with sugar, not a good idea. It's fun to watch if it's not your child, but don't ever do it. Unless you know you're going out and your wife is watching the kid, then you can do it as a prank
