So your expecting Werner to be available in the 20's? Literally no chance unless he gets injured in the bowl game or prepping for draft.

Yes, including Jason Smith - the #2 pick and one of the biggest busts of all time.

I know we need to replace those roster spots but I think it can and ultimately will be done at a much lower amount.

IMO we have to bring back Michael Johnson. HAVE to. Atkins, Dunlap, MJ and Burfict are what's winning this team ball games. They are the identity of this defense, which make this team go. I think you have to keep them in place. Yes, we have AJ Green, but outside of him I really think this group of 4 on defense is the next most valuable, looking at them as a whole.

Get Dre a competitive deal and build off the grouping of him, Whit, Boling and Zeitler. Around those two groups, OL, DL+MLB, you can really shape a team. If Dalton continues to grow, you have guys like Kilpatrick and Sanu develop, you add some help in other spots and draft well, then you finally have a real core of players. You have a system, a an identity, and a face. I really think that's what this team has missed for so long. They seemed to build a lot of teams through adding random players, and attempting to fill round wholes with square pegs. This group to me, finally gives this team a true face.

Also, get Atkins his deal this offseason as well. Don't let him go into his final year, where he's playing on a rookie deal and decides to not negotiate in season and wait it out for FA.

1.) Keep these guys.(MJ, Smith, extend rework Atkins early) No excuse not to, and every deserves their money and deserves their spot
2.) Have Sanu/ Jones develop into a legit 2 or sign someone.
3.) Add a complimentary speed back via draft or FA
4.) Add a solid pair to play the OLB spots, or add one and hope Howard is back at 2011 form
5.) Draft reasonably well. Add depth, cut the need for so many band aids moving forward. A few are needed everywhere, but bringing in the Manny Lawsons, Nate Clements, Jason Allens, Terrance Newmans of the world every other year needs to be minimalized to a degree.

6.) And last but not least... Hope Andy can make the jump from the QB 11-15 range to the 5-8 range, and you have yourself a legitimate year in and year division and overall league contender for quite awhile.
Great post. I'm down with bringing MJ back, even if it's at an average of 10 mil.

I still think we should front-load it though, to make sure we have enough for AJ, Geno and Dalton.

Those 3 (especially AJ and Geno) are going to cost a fortune.

I don't expect major problems in resigning Smith. That said if he wants LT type money, let him go.

Collins can play RT. He is a better pass protector, and is not a bad run blocker.

We can also draft a good RT in the 2nd-4th round.

MJ needs to be resigned. I don't think it will cost 10.98, but he is worth a solid 9 mill. He is top ten, but not top 5 at DE.

That should still leave enough to resign Geno early, and make him the highest paid DT in the game.

We also need to pay Gresham, if he doesn't want crazy kind of money. He has not produced like a 1st round TE, and is replaceable. It will just be hard to replace him. I say give him 7th-4th TE money. Depending on what is avalible, and what he will take.
Absolutely incorrect.

This isn't 2009

He's not worth elite tackle dollar$...if that's what he wants, he'd better pack his bags.

Andre Smith is arguably the best RT in the game. One of the top in his position. Yes, he struggled against Denver and Philly, but that's about it. He's done well.

Re-sign him. And Michael Johnson. MJ doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. He's tied 9th in the NFL in sacks. 3 passes defended, 1 INT, and a fumble recovery.

Sign them both, and then get to everyone else. I guarantee, if you show that hard work gets rewards, young players will want to stay. Especially on a winning team.

As many have already pointed out we should be able to keep all these guys easily.

1. We rolled unused cap space forward.

2. We are getting some contracts of older players off our books.

3. Dre is a RT, not a LT. No way he gets top tackle money from any team.

Many people assume this because of his holdout during his rookie year. I think he's matured past anything like that.

He may still want good money, but I guarantee he's mature to the point where he's not "all about the money"

Or it could be because he goes thru agents faster than return trips to the buffet at Golden Corral.

The rookie season holdout strategy was not Andre Smith's idea but rather an idea sprung from his twisted money-grubbing former agent, Alvin Keels. Andre has a new agent and I want him on the Cincinnati offensive line as long as he wants to play football.

Also, why are we talking about the 2013 off-season business stuff when the Bengals are beginning a playoff run?

right, the team can still work out a new deal with him (which should make him the highest paid DT in football) but you dont use the franchise tag on someone who still has a year left, that's for contracts that have expired

Im not so sure many other teams will take a chance on him.

Guarantee people on these boards make a bigger deal out of his rookie signing then he does. It is called business and in business each side attempts to get the best deal they can. Well, as long as they are good at business. People act as if the negotiation was directly with him rather than an agent.

Andre will be back. MJ will not have tag used on him as the will have an extension done.

I swear people just fabricate reasons for panic.

He's only missed 2 games his last 2 seasons. He had injury issues due to lack of conditioning, but that's in the past now. Getting a "cheap vet" or a RT in the mid rounds wouldn't come close to what Smith offers as a RT.

Stop thinking about him in 2009-10; he's made a complete change since then.

His former agent was all about the money. As long as we give him a contract he deserves($6.5-8M per) I don't see why he wouldn't stay.

Also, he's better than decent. Top 5 is elite for his position. He's a great RT.

Obviously, Geno is priority 1 whether it's now or next year that we extend him.

I could see either MJ or Andre getting franchised and the other one resigned. I think we have the cap space if we prioritize those guys. If it were up to me, I think I would franchise MJ and if needed, let him walk after 2013. We have shown a great ability to find and develop DLine.

Something has to give though, so if that is the plan I think Rey is somewhere else in 2013 and our back 7 will need some serious help in the draft.

Get them signed and an extension for Geno.

In line for my #97 tattoo now.

The Bengals have very few holes and ALL can be addressed in this years draft.

Do not need to be filling the shoes of a non positional needs like last year with departure of JJ.

Could have had one of the best CB tandems in league, and added 1 of the top LB's in last years draft already.

This is a very young and up and coming team. A lot of people on this board make it sound like players just go where the money is; Sometimes that is true, other times not so much! If the Bengals can give him a matching offer that other teams give him, I do not see why he would leave.

With that being said, did anyone see Nate Livings last night when the game was over? NBC zoomed in on him and he was bent over with his head on the bench. Looked like he was balling his eyes out. I couldn't help but laugh!!!!

Not.
