At their core (and with very few exceptions), fans are fans. What separates them are their experiences. If you can show me all the fan bases that has shared the same or similar experiences to what we've been through yet has emerged stronger than they were before, then I might tend to agree with you.

If the histories of the Steelers & Bengals franchises were transposed, people across the world would be talking about the great Bengals fan base and mocking Steelers fans (the ones who, in reality, have a current sellout streak that daters back, not coicidentally, to the 1970s).

Oh, I definitely agree with you here. Winning brings the fans, and If the Bengals were 6 time SB champs their fans would be exactly how Steelers fans are right now.

I can also understand the frustration that a lot of fans feel over this team on a yearly basis. What I don't understand is how PBS remains empty even when the Bengals are winning. They've blacked out half of their games over the last two seasons while posting a respectable 19-13 record. Even when the stadium is full, there is rarely much passion coming from the fans.

I'm just hoping that after the Bengals win this playoff game on Saturday that people will finally get back on with this team. It'd be nice to have a home field advantage at our own stadium like plenty of other teams do.

I was trying to find a picture of a tiger eating a longhorn steer, but as you can guess....those pictures are probably pretty rare. Here are the best I found. I actually dig the second one....I might turn that into my new sig for a while.

I guess you're right.....with winning, it'll happen.

It's pretty simple really. After the 4-12 debacle in 2010, which was followed by a new contract for Marv, a depressing press conference and CP demanding a trade, we lost a lot of fan support (mainly season ticket holders). That's why we only sold out 2 games last year.

This year we sold out 6 games. We're trending upwards. This fan base is fine, we've just been through a lot. A 4-12 season for other fan bases is just a blip on the radar. Here in Cincy it's "oh no, here we go again". So it's just taking a minute for people to come back, but they are definitely coming back.

Its not a weak fan base when the fans are tired of spending their hard earned money on sundays only to be disappointed with losing seasons,,no playoff wins in 20+ years and the occasionally winning season only to go one and done,,,thats a LONG time of BS!! Is it a wonder why we have trouble selling the stadium out? That doesnt mean our fanbase is weak, just means they are getting fed up.

I cannot fathom that there has been any team recently for whom one win would have such a significant impact on how their fan base receives them. That's not to say fans will generally be satisfied with just winning a single playoff game - once we get a taste, we're going to want much more - but a win Saturday will make believers out even the most jaded of fans as a young team with a bright future and a solid track record the last two seasons proves it can win when it matters most.

On the other hand, a loss this weekend and it will be business as usual for many - evidence that little of significance has changed. I obviously have selfish reasons for wanting this team to win in Houston this week. However, I really want to see how this fan base reacts to a level of success we haven't seen in over 2 decades and not since the internet provided an opportunity to broaden our connections with other Bengals fans (especially for those of us who have few other Bengals fans to share these experiences with locally). I've seen far too much of the other end of the spectrum. I want to see how the other half lives.

Fed up or not....the fan base is weak. OK,...OK....maybe the fan base isn't that weak,...but fan support sure as hell is. You are correct,,,we will eventually want more,,,because as a fan it should be SB or bust.

See i like many on here,,,just wanted to actually have a winning season,,marv brought a few of those and i was content (at first) then i wanted more,,i wanted this team winning in the playoffs and it has yet to happen hence i am pi##ed off and sick of it,,,and even if they win one (which ill be happy to watch happen) it doesnt fix the 20 years of futility unless they build on it,,,if they start making the playoffs every year and manage to win 1-2 games each time,,at some point we are all going to say WTF?? I obviously can't speak for most Bengal fans, but one-time Bengal fans on the UC Bearcat boards don't hate the team per se, they hate Mike Brown and refuse to give him their money.

Granted, that's a small microcosm of the people of Cincinnati, but who can blame them? Personally, I wouldn't buy season tickets to a Bengals game until Mike Brown either hires a GM and stays the **** out of the decision-making process, or croaks. Whichever comes first.

Ron this isnt your typical franchise,,,the steelers sell out even when they arent playing so hot because their fans KNOW it only takes 1 maybe 2 years at most and that team will be right back on top,,,we dont have that here, and fan are just sick and tired of the crap,,,we get all hyped up every year cause of our draft or someone playing better, or a new OC/DC and think "this is our year we are gonna be good" and everytime we get let down. After 20 years of that it is hard for some of us to have anymore faith until we SEE results,,,two seasons of 9-7 and 10-6 with still no playoff wins is not results to me, i expect much much more from my favorite team after putting up with the last two decades. When/if i see it,,i will be a most happy fan.

Oh, I'm not satisfied with what the franchise has done, but I can definitely see things as huge steps in the right direction. I won't be completely satisfied until this team wins a Super Bowl, and is a yearly SB contender.

The thing I don't get is just the lack of support. I understand that the last 20 years have been rather rough for most Bengals fans. A little less rough for me because I've only been a fan since the 97-98 season. I understand not getting your expectations up over the team. I just don't get the lack of people getting amped up about their team. I know that the losing atmosphere of the last couple decades has dampened enthusiasm a bit, but this team is something to be really excited about, yet there were two blackouts this year and 3 additional games that needed extensions to sell out.

Oh wellsies......I'm done ranting about it. They'll win on Saturday, and the 21 year curse will be gone. PBS will hopefully fill up next year because of it, and we can start to become a legitimate homefield advantage for the team that we support.
