Default Ray Lewis retiring

He says he is retiring after the season. Possibly the best MLB ever. Great motivational speaker and not a bad obstructor of justice.

Link to the story.

Great in his day. Overrated the last few seasons.

He'll give fiery speeches for cash and maybe be a parent to one of his kids to mutliple wives. Well, at least the one who is playing college football.

He's been a pile jumper for 5+ years now. Should have hung it up a while ago.

Ward and Farrior retiring on defense wasn't a big deal because they were older and we had replacements. But we did miss their leadership. The defense still finished #1, but no one took on a leadership role. Offense was even more evident.

I'm didn't watch many Ravens games this year, but you got to think losing Lewis was part of the reason the defense never got it together. By the way, who replaced Lewis in the line-up and is he the likely replacement heading into the future?

The defense played just as bad when Lewis was on the field early this season. He looked pretty average and slow the games he played this year.

The real Achilles of this defense HAS been at linebacker. But mostly due to the Suggs and injury and a couple key guys lost to free agency. Throw in the Webb injury and multiple front seven injuries and our defense chokes a massive D. MLB Danell Elerbe has played like a beast this year (when he's been healthy), and I think will be a solid ray Lewis replacement.

Very sad and end of an era! We will be seeing him giving his acceptance speech in 5 years in Canton.

He will be the Ravens first legitimate hall of famer.

And he'll probably still be getting credit for tackles.

I'm relatively certain he was the best defensive player ever, regardless of position.

That guy changed games just by standing in the middle of the field.

Nah. There were players they made whole rule changes to slow down.

Ray Ray had a great motor and desire to prove to people he more than the witness to a double murder. But not great defensive player of all time.

All BS aside, Ray Lewis was the best MLB I've ever seen and the division won't seem the same now that Hines and Ray are gone. I'm glad the Ravens D is finally falling apart, but part of me will miss seeing Ray during Ravens games.

Pitt and Balt defenses are starting to retire. Wonder if Ed reed leaves now.

And if Pitt dumps Harrison and others.

Can't be far off troy p. retiring as well.

The timing of this by Ray is well thought out. The Colts have lived on emotion this year. Last week they used up their last emotional card when the head coach came back to the sideline. So the Ravens and Ray turn the tables on the Colts making this th eemotional game in Baltimore in a very long time.

I now predict a very long day for the Colts on Sunday as Lewis whips the crowd into a frenzy. The entire Ravems team loves Ray and will not allow his last home game to be a loss.

Congrats to Ray Lewis on a great career. He is one of the all time greats and a lock for immediate member of the HOF when he becomes eligible.

I agree that Ray Lewis will whip the Ravens crowd into a frenzy. However, that may not be enough to whip Flacco into not choking.

Not gonna get into his issues at the SB from many years ago. Putting those aside, probably one of the greatest leaders on a football field of all time. I listen to a pre game speech of his and I want to suit up and run thru a wall for that guy... all 5'10" 190lbs of me

He will be missed by many in purple and black jerseys....but not by many in Tiger stripes. The guy is a great leader, and we desperately need a guy the can fill that role on the Bengals defense. He has been a staple of the Ravens and a hell of a football player to watch and admire when hes not playing us. Im sure he'll join hid buddy goose on the sidelines to do some comentating

Aside from a few times, when has Flacco choked in the playoffs? May wanna check Mannings numbers 1st.

That would be the year following Hines Ward induction.
