Chip Kelly close to signing deal with Cleveland

I agree, Weeden won't fit Kelly's system...

However, I can see him revitalizing Colt McCoy's career... he just needs to get the right tools in place.

Ok...Here's my thoughts...This is the wrong division for his offense. Our defenses in the AFCN are ferocious. He ought to sign elsewhere if he were really smart.

Judging by the browns message board, here are the Browns stats for the upcoming season

Cleveland Browns 19-0 Super Bowl

Trent Richardson 2500 total yards 25 touchdowns

Greg Little 1400 yards 12 TDs

Josh Gordon 1800 yards 15 TDs

Quarterback 1200 rushing yards 4500 passing yards 50 total TDs

I hope this is true as a Bengals fan. His system will not work in the NFL...however until its final, I'm still convinced it will be Nick Saban or Bill O'Brien. My guess is Saban is having the Browns put out these reports so the Bama players won't be distracted. And if they can't ink Saban, O'Brien is their backup plan.

He will not be running the Oregon offense in the NFL. There may be attributes of it but that will be it.

They have decent talent on offense but no QB. Richardson is good. Josh Gordon is a good #2 WR.

Just imagine if they drafted Julio Jones and was successful in trading for RG3. Supposedly they offered a slightly better deal than the Redskins.

They are also in a really tough division.

Why? The NFL copies college football all the time. The wildcat. Spread offenses. Using a TE as a WR.

The bottom line is a system works if you have the right QB and personnel.

Chip Kelly's success is completely based on this offense (and some shady recruiting practices with recruiting services in Texas). Those close to this situation are saying he wants to go to the NFL because he is intrigued to see if his offense will work or not at the pro level. They don't have the pieces for this offense (please don't give me Colt McCoy and his pop gun arm). Heck they might win some games early on with this, but there will be no long term success. I hope they ink this deal, I would be more worried about Saban or O'Brien.
