What are you paying per month? I am looking at DirecTV in the spring and was wondering how cheap it is vs cable. I currently have cable thrun Cincinnati Bell but have also had Insight as well. Just looking to save some $. Thanks for any info.

I was paying $180 for Time Warner. I called them and told them that I'd be switching if they didn't lower my bill substantially without cutting any channels. They said no. Sooooo.....I called Directv. 72 bucks a month for more channels than what I had before. I have to pay for internet through Cincinnati Bell, but it's not too much. After it was installed, I called to cancel Time Warner, and they said that they would beat DTV's price. Eff Time Warner.

My bill for the Choice Extra package, with HD-DVR was just taken out of my checking account. $43.86 a month, and I think that's locked in for 2 years. But I had to bundle landline and internet also.
I have no complaints. I just had a free season of NFL Sunday Ticket, and had 3 months of every pay channel known to man. EDIT: I also get about 30 HD channels, and it's crystal clear. |

Taxes change the total from month to month (as does the Sunday Ticket during the season), but I pay roughly $180 after taxes. This is for 8 receivers (4 SD (3 DVRs) / 4 HD ( 3 DVRs)), top tier package ( Baby First and Playboy are ala carte channels, I get everything else that isn't PPV or sports package, ex. NBA League Pass), networked DVRs (all HD receivers can see what's on any HD DVR), and protection plan. If I were to purchase a 3D TV from Panasonic, the 3D channels would be included also.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that On Demand is included as well. Overall about 150 channels with all but 20-30 in HD. Last edited by jfkbengals; 01-05-2013 at 10:23 PM. |

Our bill is right around $100.00, but we have the highest tier of regular channels plus Showtime/TMC and HD Recievers X2, I think anyway. We are going to cancel Showtime after Inside the NFL is done until Dexter starts back up next season.
Oh, and when I call them up and tell them that I want to cancel Showtime, they will give me 3 free months of the channels hoping I'll forget about it and not cancel after the free 3 months. Sometimes, they give me all the movie channels for free for 3 months and hope I forget. I've been with directv for about 13 years and love the company. They tend to bend over backwards for me when there's a problem and the service is great. I love the sports channels and the little red button during big sporting events like the Olympics and the NCAA Tournament.

I don't know how much I pay for Directv, but I do know that I'd pay them twice as much as Time Warner based on the quality of customer service alone. I hate TWC with a passion.

Another cool thing about DirecTV (I've heard) is that you can call and complain about something then tell them to send you to customer service, and tell them you are going to switch to DISH or cable. They will give you something to keep you. Or lower your bill a little.

I used to have NHL Center Ice. I'm a Capitals fan and live in their broadcast market, so the Caps game would be on a channel I already get, and my work schedule left me only able to catch the tail end of a West Coast game about twice a week. So I decided it was wasted money and called to cancel. The DTV person on the phone asked why, and I stated my reasons and said that times were tough and I couldn't afford to waste it like that. They said that they canceled the subscription, and would give me a $20 per month credit for 6 months to help out. I almost called back the next day to re-add the package as it would have basically been free! Another time I called with a question about my billing cycle. The rep answered my question and asked what I thought of the product overall. I told them how much I liked it, but with all things in life I'd love for it to be cheaper. They took off $10 per month for the next 10 months. |

For the top tier package with 4 DVRs (3 HD, 1 SD) I was paying $160ish a month.

Direct TV is the only way I can get Sunday Ticket to watch all the bengal games, but next year I am looking to hook my computer to my TV so that I can watch through NFL.com.
I feel like I pay too much for Direct TV considering I don't watch much TV at all, but I have to have the Bengal games. |
