He problem with a situational gadget-type guy like Hawkins is that other teams catch on and know what to expect from him. In order to be effective, Hawkins has to be a threat to do other stuff. He really hasn't shown he is a threat to do much else except those type plays.

I think it is because of the plodding pace of the offense. The bubble screen seems to work best when the defense is scrambling a little bit and the offense is setting up and snapping quickly.

Why we can't run the West Coast offense or a hurry-up, both invented here, is beyond me.

The problem is we don't run them enough to become proficient at how to do them right. And as mentioned earlier we do run the offense at a pretty slow pace which also makes it harder.

I feel like there is much more the coaches could do to get Baby Hawk the ball more. If he was in a place like New England he would be deadly in Wes Welker's position.

Not all coaches are created equal.

Jay Gruden is no Josh McDaniels and Marvin Lewis is definately no Bill Billichick.

You're asking the impossible. Our coaches are not that talented or creative enough to play to strengths. They'd rather try to stick a square peg in a circle.

if we actually tried to use hawkins he would produce just as well as welker. Welker is brady's go to guy. Whereas the bengals rarely try to get him the ball. Also hawkins is faster and quicker than welker, just watch clips of them both and its obvious.

Yeah because the game in which we tried to feature hawkins was so good...

I remember many missed and one INT trying to get the ball to hawkins

Hes a gaget player whos best use is in space on a quick screen or reverse.

haha yea he probably would. They really didnt try to get him the ball and he had 51 receptions for 533 yds. Whereas welker got 118 receptions. They both had the same number of catches over 40 yds showing me welker isnt any faster. Hawkins 40 time is 4.34 and welkers is 4.65. Welker is not more athletic or capable he is just targeted twice as much. Give Dalton an oline that gives him time to look at more than one option (like Brady's) and actually try to get him the ball and he can get those stats. Only problem i have with hawkins is that he tends to not come back to the ball.

Any throw to Hawkins more than 5 yards down field terrifies me.
I think 3-4 picks from Dalton have been on throws where Hawkins' size killed us. He can fight for position on the ball.
