Oh man, I hated that reasoning for him. You could see his play slipping in 2010, but people brought up Ghiaciuc as the reason to leave him in there. It's maddening. It's like people who say we shouldn't fire Marvin because we once employed Dave Shula.

A parenting story.

I'm helping my 5 year old boy get ready for school this morning. He's tired and needs a lot of prodding (first day back, y'know). So, I hold his coat on his shoulders for him to put his arms in the sleeves. Instead, he grabs the collars and pulls it tight like it's a cape. So I say, "C'mon, silly! Put your arms in the sleeves. Who do you think you are, James Brown?!?" At the last mention, he turns and grins at me with a sparkle in his eyes. I didn't know what the sparkle was, but I knew the wheels were turning in his head. I knew he didn't know who James Brown was. So I got him ready for mom to take him to school.

Fast forward a few hours. I pick him up from school and take him home. I go upstairs. A few minutes later, I hear music downstairs. It's James Brown, of course. He not only remembered the passing conversation, but he also remembered seeing some CD by "James Brown" in his momma's CD collection. I come downstairs and he is rocking back and forth and side-to-side to "Get Up Off of That Thing". He tells me, "I like this funky music". So we danced to James Brown together.

I think we'll start listening to Mr. Brown's music more often. It's very energizing!

So this is a silly dilemma that I'm facing. Should I try to raise my kid a Bengals fan or should know spare them the pain and let them gravitate towards my wife's Seahawks?
