Default Rob Ryan fired: Should we be concerned?

PFT is reporting that Dallas has fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. I could care less about the Cowboys, but I'm a bit worried that Jerry Jones may consider bringing in Zimmer to replace him. He's done the job there before and has to be considered one of the league's best.

Anyone else think this may become an issue? Can Jerry even bring Zimmer in if he's under contract?

He can't sign him as a lateral move. Zimmer can only leave as a head coach.

Exactly. The only way he could be their DC is if his contract expired or was terminated here.

Any Rob Ryan fans out there? I'm not a fan of his potty mouth but would he be an asset here in Cincinnati somewhere on the defensive coaching staff?

I'm a little surprised that they fired him before Jason Garrett. Most Cowboys fans I know (and I know waaay too many) want blood right now, but they want Garrett and Romo's, not the DC's.

Marvin to GM
Zimmer to HC
Ryan to DC
Bengals to Superbowl

Will never happen, but I can dream, can't I?

Assistant coaches under contract are not permitted lateral moves so he would have to be promoted to a team's HC. So, no I am not concerned.

I not a fan of either Ryan because of their mouths and attitudes. But if we lost Zimmer to an HC position, I wouldn't mind Cincy picking up Ryan as DC. I think his work in CLE and DAL has been better than the records or stats show. He fields tough and competitive units.

But even if we lost Z, I don't see that scenario materializing. MB will put up with problem child and mouthy players, but not coaches.

It's past time for Jones to release Romo. It would be best for both Dallas and him. He is a decent QB. But for some unknown reason, Romo and the Cowboys jinx each other. I think he would have little trouble finding a job around the league. And I think Jerry Jones has a history of picking good QBs.

Ryan runs the 3-4, our personnel doesn't fit it.

This is the stupidest thing I have ever read.

Marvin as the GM???

The guy is a coach.

Where the hell do people come up with this crap?

And I'm really sure someone would be receptive to being a teams GM after you fire him as HC. Get real dude. I can see the conversation now...

"Thanks for coming in Marvin. We're firing you. But we'd like you to run our team as our GM."

Marvin: "Ha ha! Yeah... **** you!"

Zimmer is under contract.

We only are required to give him permission to go interview for head coaching jobs.

Unless the Bengals allow Zimmer to exit his contract, he can't be the DC in Dallas.

I would not want Rob Ryan anywhere near this place. He and his brother are a couple of tough talking blowhards. Well maybe he could come here for a day so Andre could pound him into the practice field.

I may be wrong but Zimmer could go to Dallas If he was the DC and assistant head coach Right? I do know that some of the stations here TV/Radio have mentioned Zimmers name. I really hope we dont loose him but think he is deserving of a head coach position somewhere.

Bengals will just deny premission.. Unless its for a HC spot we dont have to let zimmer talk to anyone.

Marvin would be better for US as GM.. He can handle the brown family without splitting his time between them and the field.

Marvin to GM would be great (he probly wont want it but it would be great) Zim to HC is better than seeing him leave. I would go Lovie for DC before Rob Ryan

If that were to happen where Zimmer is HC, wouldn't he be the DC too?
