If guns are outlawed how do law abiding citizens protect themselves from criminals?

This is really becoming a hot topic and it seems that for some reason, the number of shooting incidences are rising.

Looking at this as a history question and not politicals...

No. Germany banned civilians having firearms following WWI. Hitler allowed civilians (except Jews) to have firearms provided they registered them.

So, provided you weren't Jewish, you could own a firearm under Hitler, whereas you couldn't before him.

Yup, the Weimar Republic outlawed civilian gun ownership, and firearms pretty much overall, to abide by the Treaty of Versailles. The final nail in the coffin for gun ownership occurred in 1919, though in 1928 restrictions were loosened slightly. 10 years later, the Nazi party loosened firearm restrictions even further. A law was passed later that same year that prohibited gun ownership by Jews.

Personally I rock claymores that are facing each window and door of my house. With the occasional bouncing Betty. You could never be to safe. I agree with you about ammo, but don't outlaw it. Tax the heck out of it and make it super expensive.

We should look to the "Andy Griffith Show" for guidance on this issue. How many time did we see Andy, who was a sherrif BTW, carry a gun? As I recall, he went and pulled a rifle off the rack only once. And then there was Barney Fife. How many bullets did Andy give Barney? One. And Barney wasn't even allowed to keep it in the chamber so that he would think twice before using it.

I think this thread has missed the entire point of the question that was brought up, and maybe I am, too.

I don't think it's about banning guns all-together, but it's just more about banning automatic weapons like machine guns and such, so, unless your grandma is packing an AK47 in her closet, I don't think that it would really matter to her.
