It's close though, cuz I'd hate to see our offense without AJ, what a nightmare that would be. |

How many times have we rotated anybody in for AJ?

This is a tough one but I'd say Geno at this point.
Love AJ to death but he seems to lose focus at times. I'm sure this happens due to the coverage and being able to keep yourself in the game. The great receivers can do this. AJ I think will get there but is not there yet. If you look at the Houston game Dalton is getting bashed.... and rightfully so in most cases. But there were opportunities (Gresham's multiple drops, AJ getting separated from the ball, Hawkins not coming to the ball, horrific line play, bad coaching, etc.). The QB always takes the rap during a loss and AD had his issues, but they weren't as bad as the media is putting out there. I for one am glad we have him and think he'll have a great year in 2013..... if Marvin and Gruden don't screw it up for him! Geno is just an animal in the interior of the defense. Nuff said. |

But Geno doesn't point at his name plate when he gets a sack.

That's a good point, but how many times a game does AJ line up, know full well that he' not the intended target of the play? I'd say that equalizes the rotational aspect of DL.

It's so close. I mean you're basically choosing between downgrading the defense from great to mediocre or downgrading the offense from below average to awful.

True, but there are only a handful of true game changing D-linemen to ever play the game. Geno is gonna be another one added to that short list !

Looks like AJ is running away with the vote. I'm slightly surprised. In my 20 years as a fan, I've seen a few Bengals WRs produce at a level at least equal to AJ. Pickens, Chad and even Housh put up some big numbers. I've never seen a DT play like Geno. The closest would be Wilkinson.
Geno's 12.5 sacks this year was the most by an NFL tackle since 2004, and the most ever by a Bengals DT. The production AJ had this year was at least matched several times by Chad Johnson. As recently as 2007. I'm not trying to knock AJ. He's a phenomenal talent, but Geno's production would be harder to replace than AJ's IMO. In fact, I would argue that it would be impossible to replace.

Like you said....I think we'll sign them both. If I had to choose though, I would have to go with Atkins. He IS the most dominant DT in the entire league, and could be the cornerstone of a great defense for years to come. Look at other teams....even within our division. They have a couple big time leaders on their Defense. The Bengals NEED that.

Considering our 22nd ranked offense would be 32nd ranked without him, I'd rather take AJ Green than Geno Atkins.

Atkins.
Best in the NFL at his position. Green is a very good WR and would hate to see Dalton's numbers without him, but I have to go with the guy doing the blue collar grunt work.

Shake, this is like asking me who I'd save if my girlfriend and my dog were both hanging off a cliff. I will ponder this question tonight while I'm properly boozed up. Great question though.

I voted AJ over Geno because I watch games to score touchdowns. I find it boring with low scoring games.

There is no DT in the draft or free agency that could even come close to doing what Geno does. Geno Atkins- 12.5 sacks, 53 tackles, 4 forced fumbles Ndamukong Suh- 8 sacks, 35 tackles, 0 forced fumbles Dwan Edwards- 6 sacks, 52 tackles, 1 forced fumble Nick Fairley- 5.5 sacks, 34 tackles, 2 forced fumbles Marcell Dareus- 5.5 sacks, 39 tackles, 0 forced fumbles Geno's 20 sacks in 2011-12 lead the league during that span. In 2nd place? Suh with only 12 sacks. His 6 forced fumbles also lead the league during that span. Now here's the NFL's receiving leaders: Calvin Johnson- 122-1964-5 (205 targets) Andre Johnson- 112-1598-4 (164 targets) Brandon Marshall- 118-1508-11 (194 targets) Demaryius Thomas- 94-1434-10 (141 targets) Vincent Jackson- 72-1384-8 (147 targets) Dez Bryant- 92-1382-12 (138 targets) Reggie Wayne- 106-1355-5 (194 targets) Wes Welker- 118-1354-6 (174 targets) Roddy White- 92-1351-7 (143 targets) AJ Green- 97-1350-11 (164 targets) In addition to these, 9 other WRs had at least 1000 yards, and 6 more had at least 911 yards. The hated Chad Johnson had more than 1350 yards 4 times (once with Jon Kitna). TJ's 2007 season was arguably just as productive (112 catches, 12 TDs). I'm not saying that AJ isn't as good as any of these guys, but it's easier (and much more common) to get big time production from WRs.

Man, this was tough.
I chose Geno just because he's a flippin MONSTER., terrorizing d lines and qbs like he does is a sight to see. AJ, on the other hand, is a DOG, don't get me wrong, but we haven't had a DT like Geno in a long time. Plus, Geno only has to rely on himself, as AJ has to rely on an o-line + Andy.

1) This is a pure preference pick, it looks like some of you are getting frustrated that AJ is leading the votes.
2) This is a future pick, (which one to sign means next 5 years or so) not a 2011 or 2012 discussion. 3) IMO Team wins in 2012 without Geno Atkins > Team wins without AJ Green Likewise Team wins in next 5 years without Geno > Team wins in next 5 years without AJ.

No brainer for me
AJ. Both are pro bowlers at their position but AJ is more valuable. Without him, we don't score points
