Is it time to lose the stripes?

No we don't. We didn't put stripes on our helmets until 1981. The Rams were the first team to mark their helmets by putting the horns on them in 1948 they did it so it was easier for their QB to target receivers down field. The Eagles have had wings on their helmets since the 50's.

that being said... during the bowl games there were a lot of helmets using flat paint. I would love to see flat orange for the stripes and keep the black glossy. Either way tho - KEEP THE STRIPES.

Kind of with you on the approach here. I'd like to see something done kind of like Seattle did where they they toned down the bright stuff and got more masculine at the same time. I grew up with the Bengals since 68 and love the orange and black, but maybe taking the orange to something like a dark gold or copper and leaving a hint of orange in some piping on the shirt and pants or something. All I know is the first time I saw the re-do on Seattle and Tampa's uni's my first impression was"that's bad @zz!". If my memory serves me right - the year we re-did the uniform back in the day - was a Superbowl season! Maybe a little karma change is in order. Don't know - just my 2 cents worth - it is off season for us.

Auburn's Pro Combat helmet would also be acceptable.

Agree - Seattle's new uni's are sick. Would love to see them change things up a bit while keeping the stripes. Thats why I think incorporating flat paint into the helmets would be cool. If we do that and get to the SB, I'll be taking full credit and I'm sure no one here will have a problem with that.

Doubtful. I've been given compliments all over the country for my Bengal attire, with people almost always telling me they don't really follow the Bengals but love their uniforms. Sometimes they just love the helmet, and sometimes they say they love the entire uniform... I have never had anyone tell me the uniforms are hideous.

In fact, that's really the only compliment I ever get for being a Bengal fan ("Well, at least you guys have sick helmets!" )

Also, I work with a lot of people from Eastern Europe, and a bunch of them are disinterested Bengal fans who love the uniforms (but are still well aware that the team is historically bad). The uniforms have made the Bengals world famous!

This is the best choice I have seen in the many years of this thread being posted. It is true to our stripes yet modernized. I like it.

After thinking it through, I recant my original thought of possibly changing the helmet. I do like the helmets as I said in the original post. However, I would like to see them go back to the original design of the stripes uniforms. And I would like to do away with the orange alternate jersey and go to the throwback uniforms instead.

I don't like the B with stripes inside it. ....I like the stripes and we wore it in two Super Bowls.....Steelers looked stupid in their very old bee uniforms, and why don't they wear their Super Bowl colors....I like the Reds uniforms to look like their best years ever of the 1970s.....The Yankees wear the pinstripes, and why not, Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle....The Jets went to the Joe Namath look a few years back, and it's a good look......No, I'm not into changing uniforms and I don't even like it when teams wear uniforms of decades ago. ....I've seen the Reds in the old 1950s type white uniforms and years they wore black uniforms, but they should be proud of the 1970s and wear those uiniforms......The Bengals stripes look alot better than Bengals on the side as in 1968 to 1980....and a B with stripes on the side doesn't do it for me.....Keep The Stripes......1981 and 1988 were are best years....The Red hat and white wishbone C, and the Bengals striped helmets, keep them both.
