Manti Te'o Tragedy...A Hoax?

I really hope that it's not all a hoax, but this is a pretty deep story.

Quick summary: Teo reportedly had a girlfriend, and she died of leukemia. Guy does all this football stuff during tragedy. Inspiring. Wellllll, apparently that was all a hoax and his girlfriend apparently did not even exist.

Aka: Teo had a story about his girlfriend dying during the season, but now it appears its just a hoax.

Here's what I don't get and it's what everyone's overlooking:

The South Bend Tribune wrote an article describing the young couple's fairytale meeting—she, a Stanford student; he, a Notre Dame star—after a football game outside Palo Alto.

If they had met, wouldn't he know that all the pictures he was being sent weren't of her? ESPN said it was of some girl that had never met him, so did it look like the girl he had met or something?

All seems too weird.

This seems like a pick the Bengals used to make but I'm praying that they take his name off the draft board, burn it, take the ashes, cover it in lava, and then send them into deep outer space.

They didn't really meet. Apparently he was embarrassed by having an online GF and made up the story of having met her after a stanford game.

Also, apparently the person perpetuating the hoax knew Te'o. Feel bad for the guy, but it is kinda funny.

I think that's just ESPN covering their arse cuz they, along with all the other news outlets that reported on it, got scooped by, egad, deadspin.com. The very internet the mainstream media jackholes despise so much got the drop on all of them and it kills them. I think it's hilarious cuz there's a ton of ppl on the web without the credentials and education to land jobs in the mainstream media that are just as good and often better than their perceptually more dignified counterparts at ESPN and the like.
