Ex Seahawks defensive coordinator replaces the fired Mike Mularkey, who went 2-14 in his only season.

I'm not terribly familiar with the guy, but on the surface, that seems like a solid hire. That Seattle defense has been pretty freakin good for the last few years and you have to like the intensity they played with.

I dont think he was ever really in danger of leaving.... the run-run-pass on third offense is no longer a secret.

We still have Arizona. The candidates have really dwindled too.
Jay might look like their best option.

Hey, we can always hope. It is the Cardinals.

Re: Jacksonville Hires head coach!
Yeah, this thread seemed way too happy about Jay being "safe"... I clicked on it and was hoping it'd be "Jacksonville Hires head coach! Jay Gruden to coach the Jags."

In a world where the Bears hire a head coach from the CFL anything can happen.

Who knows? But at this point I'd say it's definitely between Arians and Jay.

I just heard on radio that John Clayton thinks Jay is going to get it there. But I tend to agree with Arians having the inside track, considering the job he did this year.

I don't understand why Ray Horton's presence there matters to Ariens. Evidently, that could be a deal-breaker according to the article in my link.

Not to worry Jimmy Pursey, the offense went from 20th to 22nd this year, when it goes to 27th next year somebody will take him off our hands.

Because of what he did with Dalton. After all, what Chud did with Cam who happened to regress in season 2 landed him a head coaching gig.... So why not?

Rookie QBs having success is the norm. The NFL is changing. And Chud was with the Browns twice. Other skills go into being a good head coach. |

Arians is reportedly going to the Cardinals.
Not too bad for a guy the Steelers fired and said retired! |

Gruden and Zimmer have to be flawed to be passed over that many times.

All Gruden has is his name. I think he knows it too. That's why he always puts out PR that he's staying. |

Here's what I think might be happening: It's one thing to be responsible for one area of the game but yet another to have oversight over all three aspects of football. Head coaching candidates are interviewed and grilled over the entire game, so it's highly possible Mike Zimmer might completely swing and miss when talking about offense and Jay Gruden might whiff on questions related to defense. It's also probable that neither of those guys can talk with a degree of fluency about special teams. Managing the whole company is far different than being in charge of one of its divisions. |
