I'm not terribly familiar with the guy, but on the surface, that seems like a solid hire. That Seattle defense has been pretty freakin good for the last few years and you have to like the intensity they played with.

The job is probably his if he wants it, but ESPN insider is suggesting he will stay in Indy.

Who knows? But at this point I'd say it's definitely between Arians and Jay.

I just heard on radio that John Clayton thinks Jay is going to get it there. But I tend to agree with Arians having the inside track, considering the job he did this year.

I don't understand why Ray Horton's presence there matters to Ariens. Evidently, that could be a deal-breaker according to the article in my link.

What about RG3? Wilson? Luck? Newton didn't regress in Year 2...he had a higher rating.

Rookie QBs having success is the norm. The NFL is changing.

And Chud was with the Browns twice. Other skills go into being a good head coach.

I think Zimmer is too honest and blunt and owners and GMs don't want that.

All Gruden has is his name. I think he knows it too. That's why he always puts out PR that he's staying.

Here's what I think might be happening: It's one thing to be responsible for one area of the game but yet another to have oversight over all three aspects of football. Head coaching candidates are interviewed and grilled over the entire game, so it's highly possible Mike Zimmer might completely swing and miss when talking about offense and Jay Gruden might whiff on questions related to defense. It's also probable that neither of those guys can talk with a degree of fluency about special teams. Managing the whole company is far different than being in charge of one of its divisions.
