2014 BOLD predictions thread

What do you see us doing this year (or not doing this year) that will be a bit of a shock to some people??

I think this is the earliest that i've ever seen this thread but I'll bite.

No coaching changes
No big FA splashes
Michael Johnson leaves in FA
Terrance Newman and Adam Jones both leave
7-9 for 2014

and Robert Griffin becomes the first player in NFL history to play with a bionic knee.

Not Bengals but could see this for happening 2013.

The Super Bowl is turned into the Harbaugh Bowl with Jim and John facing off in a family feud.

Then in March, both attend NCAA Basketball Championship game to watch their sisters husband coach the Indiana Hoosiers to a close game but ultimately yielding to the eventual Champions Louisville Cardinals.

Just a family tradition.


2014--Bengals win SB with no coaching changes this year. Sanu is MVP. But then a mass coaching exodus happens after SB win. Zimmer and Gruden getting HC gigs. Jay Hayes becomes Bengals new DC. MB turns team over to daughter and Marvin gives raspberries and middle finger to the nonbelievers.

I made it a bit early because I wanted to see what people think before the draft and FA....

But my predictions are

We draft either a LB or Safety with our first pick in the draft
Second pick will be a RB.

I say we resign MJ, Extend Geno and we let Maualuga walk. (if he doesnt walk, his deal will be a 1 year deal) Mikey loves those deals

We become AFC North Champs with a 11-5 record
Win first playoff game
Win second playoff game
Lose in the AFC championship game to the Broncos

Andy Dalton injured mod-season 2013. Troy Smith fills in at QB and takes Bengals to Super Bowl.

Bengals go 13 and 3, Browns 10 and 6, Ravens 9 and 7 and Steelers 7 and 9, AFC North becomes the undisputed best division in the NFL.
Reggie Bush becomes a great one-two with The Law Firm and returns kicks (B. Tate GONE) Jerome Simpson and Chad Johnson (Signed for depth)
Manti Teo
Michael Johnson and Geno Atkins signed long term (Malaluaga GONE)
No Changes, and Hue becomes the ASSISTANT COACH, officially
Andy Dalton has a breakout year with 35 TD's, 4,000 yards. AJ and Sanu take over with 1,000+ yards and 10+ TD's, each. Burfict becomes a top 3 MLB, 10 sacks, 4 picks, 200 tackles. Josh Brown doesn't miss a Field Goal or extra point all season. Moch plays 10 games, has 10 sacks. Bengals defense leads league in sacks with 65, led by Geno who has 20.

How so? Dalton is doubted more than any player on the team.

As for my "bold" predictions:

1. No coaching changes. (Not very bold, I know)
2. We will franchise Michael Johnson after very little progress in negotiations.
3. We will pursue at least one "big name" WR, but land a smaller name like Hartline. Or maybe a smaller name than that.
4. Josh Brown will be our kicker in 2013.
5. Rey Maualuga will be back.

Record: 9-7

FA: We'll go after a big name WR and be in the mix for them. I think that's Mike Wallace. Jennings would be nice also. I think Bowe gets franchise tagged. (He benefits from a zillion targets anyways.)

We'll also look at a big name veteran that is older that is a surprise free agent. Polamalu comes to mind.

Draft: We'll draft a QB fairly high and it will surprise some. In the 1st Round, look DE, WR, or RT. If MJ costs a lot, they will draft a DE thinking they can't keep Dunlap.

Current Players: MJ will cost a surprising amount of money to keep. Andre Smith may be let go if he demands too much. Negotiations will be pretty heated.

Atkins gets extended.

Coaches: Status Quo

Stats: AJ Green 1500 yards.

Other surprises: Charles starts for Gresham at some point in the season.

Cause that's how you build through the draft.

I'm kind of excited to see what we do at LB. The playoffs are all about matchups and exploiting weaknesses and the Texans went after Rey and some of our other LB's. (Burfict wasn't great either in that game).

Our defense goes to the next level with Howard coming back and adding another solid backer that can cover a TE.

Yeah, that is pretty bold considering that Mike Brown has a history of paying big money in order to keep his own players like Chad, TJ, Carson, Rudi, Levi Jones, Bobbie Williams, Jeremi Johnson, Robert Geathers, Domata Peko, Andrew Whitworth, Leon Hall, and many many others.
