Gillislee can't be happy with the comments from his Senior Bowl Weigh In

Everything about him is mediocre. Not explosive. Slow through the hole. Basically a one speed back who can't switch gears. Basically takes then handoff and takes a while to get up to speed.

Re: Mike Gillislee
Apparently you have been watching a different Gillislee then the one that plays for the Florida Gators. If you are talking about the one that played for Florida I would suggest contacting the LSU and Florida State defenses and see if they agree with your assessment.

Or the defensive powerhouses Louisiana Lafayette and Vanderbilt who held him under 4 ypc.

Yet even so he still averaged 4.7 for the season.

Stepfan Taylor has not been talked about much on these boards, but he is DEFINITELY one I would love to take. I dont think he is viewed as explosive, but he gets the job done. A quiet runner who averaged 4.8 yards per carry and caught 41 balls out of the backfield this year.
Everyone is caught up on "quickness" and "homerun speed" so Gio Bernard comes to mind, or Barner, or Franklin, but Taylor is right up there with everyone on the list. I think he might open some eyes!!!

COMPARES TO: Taiwan Jones, RB, Oakland Raiders -- While not possessing Jones' electric speed, Gillislee does offer a similar slim build, quick lateral agility and vision for the cutback as the Raiders' big-play threat. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/p...mike-gillislee

Re: Mike Brown likes Gillislee
Can't blame him for liking him. There is much to like about him.

Wasn't a fan of this kid before the senior bowl and even less so after the senior bowl practices.
He just doesn't seem to have anything elite or very good that he would bring to a team. In one word he is unimpressive.

Re: Mike Gillislee
01/21/2013 - 2013 Senior Bowl, Monday practice: Clemson's Andre Ellington and Florida's Mike Gillislee had their moments throughout practice as rushers and pass-catchers. Gillislee especially flashed burst throughout the session and has the size (5-11, 207) to help him find work early on Draft Day. - Dave Richard, CBSSports.com*

Doc, I'm shocked you thought he would be unimpressive considering you used the same words to describe Doug Martin.
Gillislee will be a good pick up. |

The running backs and the linebackers went one-on-one in pass-blocking drills in the early portion of practice. Florida running back Mike Gillislee started strong with a resounding win against Texas A&M linebacker Sean Porter. Gillislee followed that by losing a rep to Stanford's Chase Thomas. He rocked Gillislee off balance with a big hit before storming to the quarterback marker. Later, the Gators' back ran a nice route on a pass-receiving rep and made a tough catch along the sideline with Porter trailing behind.
Stanford running back Stepfan Taylor had a win against Missouri's Zaviar Gooden, but may have gotten away with a hold. Taylor had a great block, riding and sustaining the contact, against Florida State linebacker Vince Williams. Both Taylor and Gillislee ran the ball well in the team scrimmage. On the first rep, Gillislee darted to the right side for a good gain. Taylor, for his part, bounced a run to the outside for gain of about 10 yards. The defense came back to stuff a few runs from both backs. Gillislee ripped off a 40-yard run toward the very end of the team scrimmage when he jab-stepped to get through a hole to the right. Gillislee was then able to juke Alabama safety Robert Lester about 10 yards into the run to get in the open field. Lester took a terrible angle and set himself up for that. Gillislee was running along the sideline before he was rocked flat on his back by Georgia safety Shawn Williams. Even though Gillislee was sent flying, it was still the best run of the day. Both he and Taylor have helped themselves this week Walterfootball.com http://http://walterfootball.com/sen...3practice6.php |

One thing that concerns me with Gillislee is how he didn't pass the "eye test" during the Senior Bowl weigh-ins. And, yes, I do put stock into how an athlete appears. It gives us some insight into their work ethic, are they a gym rat, how well do they carry their weight, etc.
From draftcountdown: • Mike Gillislee Florida 5'11¼ 207 30¾ 8¾ 74¼ Notes: Relatively undefined and unspectacular A "soft" RB at 207 is probably going to play at 190lbs. To me, this looks like a guy who tried to put on weight after the season ended but it is bad weight.

Gillislee vs Ellington
All I ask is to put on the footage of Mike Gillislee vs FSU and Ellington vs FSU. FSU was the #1 run defense. I also know it’s very small sample but if you can’t get the hint that Gillislee would be a better fit I really have to think you’re a sheep when it comes to scouting RBs. Gillislee: Gains more yds between tackles consistently Much more patient Much more power breaking “arm” tackles Looks to be faster b/c he got the edge much easier than Ellington Every time it looks as though Gillislee is stopped at LOS, he’ll gain 5-7 yds Gillislee has very, very low negative yds he doesn’t get stuffed behind LOS Gillislee will put a hit on someone and anyone Ellington: Not much power, he never “moves” a pile and will get caught at LOS his blocking IS garbage, again no power. he gets bulldozed |

How did each look in the receiving department in that game?
