Here is his reasoning for not wanting a "speed back":
“If you have a guy that can’t do some of the things that he can do, and you really need a guy that can carry it a lot in this division, then you can’t do what you do on offense,” Anderson said, via the team’s website. “You’d like the (other back) to emulate him in some way. Maybe the guy is like the other guy, but brings a few different things to the table. But sometimes you can’t have your cake and eat it, too.” http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...s-green-ellis/ I'm not even sure how to translate that quote. Why not get a speed back? I just dont understand. The league is evolving and you are being left in the dust. Who cares if we play in the AFC North. Get a pass catching guy who can be a play maker. Im tired of the off tackle runs and lame run offense.

He violated the double-negative rule so many times that I don't understand what he said.

Hopefully, he was just high. They took B. Scott in the draft. He was nothing like Ced.

The Jim Anderson who coached Pro Bowlers Icky Woods, Corey Dillon, James Brooks, etc, etc? That Jim Anderson is a moron?

To be fair, those are some very talented guys you listed. Don't know how much of their success can be directly attributed to ol' Jim. I think you or I could have coached those guys to the PB.

Benson also had good numbers here. |

Scott was pretty much average at everything he did, from speed to strength. We need a guy with a great burst, a real blazer who can catch.

The problem with Jim Anderson is that he is still coaching the same running style that was used in the late 80's and 90's. The game has evolved. Its no longer about going off tackle, its about getting to the edge with speed and implementing pass catching into the running backs skill set.

I am not sure, but I think he is saying that if you have a guy who is ONLY a speedy "outside the tackles" type back it limits what you can do when you have him in the game.
In other words it is good to have a second guy who can bring some extra things to the table (receiving ability, extra-speed, etc), but if the defense knows he can't run between the tackles at all then he will not be effective. |

I like Anderson. I think he has a pretty good eye for talent and is a good RB coach. I've got no problem with him...

I hope this means we are looking at a guy like Ball or Lacy. I get the whole committee thing I just don't like it. I want all our backs to be able to run inside/outside, catch/block, short/long yardage. I want all around backs and if you want a bunch to rotate in that's fine, but i don't like specializing RBs. Side note I do like Barner at at a bit over 190 I think he is big enough to do all of these things and be an every down back.

Anything you hear from the teams from now until after the draft is smoke.
And most of what they say during the season is smoke, too. ![]()

With our low hit rate (Atkins aside) of 4th-7th Round picks, it's worth taking a high risk/reward pick. |

With the recent news about Lattimore, he probably won't make it even close to the 4th.

Our coaches are not morons.
If people had to sign their real names to these posts there would be a lot fewer comments like this. |

You have to admit that Andersons quote was hard to decipher.

Essentially he's healing extremely quick and may make it back for 2013.
I'm still skeptical of him being drafted high though even with this news. Although, if McGahee was... |
