Despite him having a few issues this year, it's nice to see a player really trying to take his opportunities and use them to help build his team and to help push them in the right direction. It's very Peyton Manning esq. Whitworths been playing this year and some of last with pain in his knee, hopefully the surgery he gets in the off season will take care of that.
Also, when talking about the probowl, he talks about how he was spending time with various players getting tips and swapping ideas on how to get Cincinnati back into a super bowl. "Whitworth got a kick out of playing right tackle for the first time in his life, but what he really enjoyed was spending the week picking the brains of players that have been on successful teams in his effort to get the Bengals to the Super Bowl. He found himself spending time with Manning and brother Eli, the quarterback of the Giants, as well as Packers center Jeff Saturday and Cowboys tight end Jason Witten." "Asking about team, leadership, stuff like that. I'm just trying to push us over the hump. We've been good the last two years. I want us to be great," Whitworth said. "We talked about a lot of things. Everything from schedules to how things are done, the things they really thought were important and helped them. It was real fun to sit around and listen to them." http://www.bengals.com/news/article-...1-b6f1ba73a95f

Re: Andrew Whitworth
Whitworth is definitely a leader and positive influence in that locker room.
No doubt about it. He clearly is willing to go to every length to get Cincinnati into the big dance and bring the city home something a little nice. I think we've finally gotten him a good group of guys in every area of the team to get on board with his philosophy as well, and it seem to really be paying off. Here's hoping whatever tips he picked up at the Pro Bowl pay off dividends in 2013. |

Whit is a left tackle that 31 other teams probably wish they had. He's loyal, driven, and stands up for his own. When I saw that he finally made the pro-bowl, it really made my day. Not that he necessarily deserved it over anyone else on our team, but he's been robbed of pro-bowls for his entire career. Just seemed like every year people were saying how he should have been a pro-bowler, now he is.
Big load off his shoulders, I'm sure. |

Glad he is finally getting his knee issues taken care of this off-season. You can tell it has hindered him the last couple years.

Whitworth is exactly the kinda guy we want around. He's a damn good player at his position, but an even better personality/leader/guy. Slight shame he isn't say at MLB, or in a position where he would have complete influence on the team while on the field. But if im Andy Dalton, then Whit is a guy I want on my o-line. Not that they were great this year mind
but the point being Whit is very valuable to this team. |

Whitworth will turn 32 this year.
He has been a great LT, but we have to keep a close eye on his health. It seems that good O-linemen can play longer than guys at other positions, but any NFL player in his 30s is subject to declining quickly with injuries. Maybe I am paranoid because I saw elite tackles Willie Anderson and Levi Jones fall to injuroes that they never really recovered from. Luckily we had Whit to step in at LT, but it took years to replace Willie. I predict that we draft an OT in the first three rounds. Remember that when we used a second on Whit we didn't have an immediate need on the O-line. I think it would be agood idea to do that again. Last edited by fredtoast; 01-30-2013 at 11:33 AM. |

Mike Brown isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

That was a great response.
Honest, true, and very funny. Whit worth will make a great coach some day. I hope he is still wearing stripes when he decides to become a coach.
