If at the last minute he decided to stay with his original decision to come here. And not pull a pretty crappy thing and decide to go to 49ers after we reached a deal in principal. All things being equal we could be playing the falcons for the Lombardi.

If he came here our defense would be a tad bit better for sure. But not Super Bowl bound better unless he would have helped our offense out.

He doesn't help our offense or LBs. Our run defense is better though. He's probably a little better in coverage than Crocker too.
We aren't 1 player away from a Super Bowl though unless its Adrian Peterson. |

Re: What if whitner came here?
There is not one defensive player in the N.F.L. that could get us to the super bowl, unless he could keep the other team from scoring a single point, and run a interception back for a pick six, because our offense stinks.

Whitner is not what was keeping us from a superbowl berth.... we needed 3 playoffs wins and Whitner doesn't equal them.
But he would've improved the secondary obviously. I personally dont think the secondary was a particularly big problem on the team, we may have been a little better, but not a huge amount better. |

I think Whitner upgrades us...but he's still overrated.

Patrick Willis on our defense is a start. Dude shuts TEs down!

If Whitner was here, we'd still have an offense that can't be counted on to score more than six points.
Improving the defense just means that we would lose games like 17-6 instead of 19-6. Big deal. Which is why the first three or four picks in the next draft will be all offense. |

If Whitner would have come to the Bengals?
We would still be a good LB short of a SB caliber defense. ![]() Oddly enough, I'm not as concerned about the offense as some others. Offense just needs another season to get it all together, and a speedy 2nd option at RB.

He would be mad as hell knowing he could be playing in the SuperBowl this weekend; instead of watching it from the couch.

we were only 1 regular season win away this year from being the 4 seed like the ravens were. 2 like the browns and dolphins 2 very winnable games we would have got a first round bye. A better 2nd safety means we could have been more aggressive on defense and not expose our mediocre to poor linebackers as much. Im not saying he definitely would have made a significant difference but it is something worth considering.

Re: What if whitner came here?
Whitner wouldn't have stopped the Texans from targeting and absolutely abusing Maualuga, and the offense's inability to score more than 6 points partially due to the decision to not call any plays to throw to AJ Green for the first 35 minutes of the game. All the offense had to do to win was score 13 points. They couldn't.
I don't think anything drastic would have changed with the addition of a better safety.

We'd have the 5th ranked defense instead of the 6th ranked defense to go along with our anemic offense.
You should ask "what if Peyton Manning came here" instead of Denver. We'd be in the superbowl.

Other than Peyton, We're a better team than Denver.
Remember, the Broncos defense lost to the Ravens, not Manning.

Maybe our defense wouldnt have started off so slow. Thats about it. Wouldnt have helped our problem on the offense.

I dont think its a coincidence probably the 2 best defenses are playing for the lombardi title. Offense helps sell tickets and can win alot of regular season games but defense still wins championships. You have to go all the way back to the rams and the greatest show on turf last time even a mediocre d won the Lombardi. Besides for the 2000 Ravens you need a decent to good offense. but a good to great d is still a prerequisite even in this offensive driven era. You could argue the Manning led colts were mediocre to poor. but their d became really good when a healthy bob sanders returned for the playoffs. the saints same thing they gave up alot of yards but led the league in takeaways I believe.

But seriously, I agree. You have to beat the team in front of you, and we arguably played one of the easier teams to beat in the playoffs.
