I was at the gym last night in the cardio "movie room" and they had John Carter on. I only saw 30 mins but what the hell was Disney thinking? this movie was dumb. Has anyone else been so lucky to watch it? :(

I recently watched it from Netflix.

I honestly didn't think it was as bad as it got panned for. I mean at least in terms as being a sci fi movie. That movie would never be the blockbuster that Disney had anticipated, but it does have a niche. But aside from Avatar, it's hard to get really good sci fi blockbusters from material people don't already know. (and even then, those Scifi blockbusters might not be good, see Transformers 2)

The only thing I had real problems with was the idea that this guy can jump so high and be so strong on Mars. Yes, there would be some as the gravity would be different... but again, I'm watching Sci-fi.... I'm willing to suspend disbelief on many "science" levels.

I did like the whole moving city and it's graphics, and i loved the "dog" creature.

I've not seen the movie. It doesn't seem like my style. But I was floored to hear that one of my favorite authors. Michael Chabon, helped write the screenplay. Chabon is one of the best writers of this era and has won all sorts of awards including the Pulitzer Prize in fiction.

It almost made me want to check the movie out, but I haven'y gotten around to it yet.

Mars is bigger so should have more gravity.. But less atmosphere. weird.. Im with you i love a good Sci-Fi film and most dont make big box office splashes but it doesnt change there overall awesome status.

I didn't really even decide to watch it lol it was kinda just on and I'm like oh I heard about this and by the end I walked out of the gym wondering if I even did anything lol

I wanted this movie to be good because I'm a fan of the original Edgar Rice Burroughs' series from when I was a kid.

I believe the fatal flaw of this movie was the choice of director, Andrew Stanton. Stanton's previous work as a director includes A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, and WALL-E.

With a director like Guillermo del Toro or Peter Jackson, who know how to blend the special effects with live action and who had previously directed real actors, it could have been so much better.

Point of order at least on the Mars thing.... Mars isn't larger than earth. It's roughly half the size of earth. So yeah, gravity would be less, but enough to make him jump as he did? meh. PLus, like you said, there is little atmosphere. Also there isn't really a magnetosphere (some areas do have strong fields), which would sterilize most life.

But again, its sci fi! Sure this was mars as it was dying! Why not?

Yeah, the special effects just didn't look...special they looked very corny.

Yeah i remember that one.... The new tron was cool the 1st time i watched it lots of pretty colors and all. But overall not so good.

I keep seeing it when i'm browsing the movie channels at home but i've not bothered watching it yet. And with your critique, i don't think i will.

That pretty much sums it up for me, Virginia.

My expectations greatly influence how well I enjoy a movie and I wasn't expecting much. I liked enough to watch it twice (they're playing the crap out of it on Starz right now).

I mean I encourage everyone to watch movies and develope their own opinion but this movie dude it's up there with The Village and Ghost Rider 2.

The village was pretty good if you only watch till about 10 minutes till the end and stop it.
