Boomer E. was good for us when he was here and those were some for sure glory days.However, he lost the superbowl and i hold that against him.He stunk it up against the niners and I just hated to see us lose again to those stinkin niners.Boomer has a good view of andy dalton and i agree with alot of what he says about him, but old andy Must get better. Oh I know some of you couch coaches will say that he has to say that about Dalton or this or that! Hogwash! He doesn't work for the Bengals and I don't think he would get fired as an NFL analyst for speaking his mind if it didn't happen to line up with critics in here!!!

I especially like in bold. Add to that a run game that no one respects at all and a dearth of weapons other Green and there is really just flat out no case to be made for the Dalton haters. They don't know what they're talking about.

Are scouts or team personnel guys ALWAYS right? Of course not, Boomer was MVP of the league in 88, one of the best Bengals QBs and has been getting paid big money to observe and evaluate the NFL for longer than half the people on this board have been potty trained.

.....But people are acting like it's stupid to have any respect for his opinion at all. Idk, seems weird to me, I agree with what Boomer said.

Rather than compare him to other players he might be like, I'll say this. With a better rush game and more reliable targets to throw to, Dalton's passer rating will be in the mid to upper 90's, the offense will be top ten and with the defense Zimmer has assembled, this team will be a serious threat to win it all......Even with Lewis as HC.

So actually, it's not nearly as ridiculous to compare Dalton to Manning as it is to compare him to Sanchez. He's clearly much better than Sanchez and not really all that far off from Peyton's production level at the same point in his career.

How many times did he actually do that? I can only think of a couple occasions. Dalton makes good decisions on where to throw the ball so I assume you're talking about his footwork, which I can see, but the Oline can still improve in pass pro as well. Pressure was still more of an Oline issue than a Dalton issue. Seems like Andy gets a lot of flak for not handling pressure better. Am I supposed to forget that somebody didn't block their man prior to Andy not doing a better job of scrambling?

If the Bengals would stop trying to do things that Dalton can't do. Andy Dalton would be just fine. Example, Dalton can't throw the " long " pass. So thrown the short to mid passes. He's much better at these anyway. The west coast offence was dink and dunk, hurry up to the line, snap the ball, quick slant, quick pitch to a back headed to the flat. Work with what Andy does the the best. Stop trying to do what he can't.

His long ball accuracy will increase just as soon as we've got weapons to pull safeties away from AJ. I think some of his perceived "inability to throw the long ball" is a result of him trying to guard against picks.

I don't know how many people said it's stupid to respect Boomer's opinion. But, people have pointed out that Boomer has been dismissed as an idiot numerous times on these boards when making critical comments about the Bengals or Bengals players, and it seems arbitrary and frankly quite funny to see people hold him up as some kind of genius now when he says something nice about a Bengals player. As long as people don't flip-flop between thinking Boomer's a genius and an idiot depending on whether he's praising or criticizing the team, you can use Boomer's opinon in whatever way you like.

But, in this particular case, Boomer didn't offer any insight at all, he didn't provide any new info about Andy after breaking down hours of film or anything like that. The only actual argument he offered was that Andy had started in the playoffs his first two years, and we know from history that that alone does not guarantee future greatness. My comments in this thread were actually not in any way intended to be anti-Dalton at all ... I actually just thought it was pretty funny that "hey, Boomer thinks Andy is good" was offered up as apparently being irrefutable proof that Andy is destined for greatness and anybody with any doubts could now shut up (although I have no doubt that some people will classify my comments that I don't think Andy will have a career like Brady and Manning as anti-Dalton even though I don't).

All good man. I agree, saying he won't be as good as Brady or Manning still leaves plenty of room for him to be plenty good.
