Bengals should've signed Jacoby Jones

Just venting. I wanted Jones before the season, and dude has been in beast mode for the playoffs. He's probably the Superbowl MVP.

I've been a fan of Jones for a while too. Mainly for returns...but I think he might have been our 2nd best wr. Easily top 3.

Yeah, I don't think Jones would be a great #2, but he would've been better than Binns, Tate or probably Jones. He's also way better than Tate on returns.

Yep. He'd work well with Sanu as he can get deep.

When is the last time we invested above average resources in a returner?

Ehhh... the guy had 30 catches, 400 yards, 1 TD in the regular season, Hawkins was much much better than that, and he was misused the entire second half of the season. Sure he's beasted the playoffs, but he was awfully pedestrian in the regular season. He's $4.9m against the cap in 2013 on top of that..

His return skills are his main value.

I wouldn't mind 4.9 m for a player that can make a difference in the playoffs. His contract was probably front loaded anyway.

Also, like Pistons pointed out, he would've been utilized as a WR here more than in Balt.

Back loaded actually.. 2/$6.5m... $1.6m cap hit in 2012, $4.9m in 2013... he's never had 600 yards receiving before in 6 seasons. That's not the kind of 28 year old guy you give $3.25m a year to. It would have worked out again to be another Jamaal Anderson/Jason Allen/Nate Clements type deal.. where rather than spend the extra money on a good player, you spend moderate money each on a ton of mediocre guys.

Doesn't matter who they signed though, if Jay refused to let AJ get a pass thrown to him for 35 minutes, they still would have lost.

Jones had 1 catch for 8 yards versus Indy.. and 1 catch for 6 yards versus NE. He had that one nice catch against Denver for 70 yards, but only had 1 other catch for 7 yards in that game... so while he's shown up for 3 good plays in the playoffs the rest of the time he's been an absolute ghost, so I still have to disagree that he would have been a good signing. The Ravens had Boldin/Smith/Rice/Pitta/Dickson so Jones didn't need to produce often... the Bengals have Green/Gresham/Hawkins.. so he would have had to been forced to produce as a WR, which he couldn't do in Houston for 5 years and now Baltimore for 1 more.

Yeah, but would he have been used as a returner over Tate? Because the Bengals had Adam Jones who is vastly an improvement over Tate.. yet Tate still returned an awful lot more than Adam. I go back to my AJ Green argument... you can have the most talented players in the world, but it doesn't matter, you will still lose if you refuse to use them.

True. Maybe I should've said he would've been a lot better.

He returned 2 kicks and a punt for scores this season.

On top of that, he had 5 catches for 147 yards and 2 scores receiving in the playoffs, plus the 108 yard TD in the SB.

Riiiiight. I get sick of so many fans with 20/20 hindsight but you know what? There are fans of 31 other teams on their message boards right now lamenting why their team didn't draft Carlos Dunlap, AJ Green, Geno Atkins, Andy Dalton, Kevin Zeitler, and even some who wish their team had taken a chance on Vontaze Burfict. Other message boards are probably full of complaints about their teams not landing Thomas Howard or BenJarvus Green-Ellis in free agency.

Unfortunatley not everything works out for everyone in the NFL. Thats why the guys that make the hard picks get the big bucks.....How would you like a job KNOWING that every pick you make could make you look like an idiot or make you look like a genius.....putting your job at risk.
