Sorry but there was no OPI on that play. Maybe the one you are thinking about is when Torrey Smith tackled the defenders head before the ball got there. Not 1 penalty against the Ravens sustained a 49ers drive. Nor was there a no call that was blatantly missed that resulted in a drive ending.

It doesn't matter what time of the game it was. The rules do not specify how loose or tight a game is called based upon what time it is. The hold couldn't have been more blatant unless he tackled the receiver. The ref made the decision before the play that no matter what he is not throwing a flag and Smith held and never even made an attempt to legally cover Crabtree.

Spin it all you want but the proof is in the pudding. The picture posted above in another post says it all.

Actually it makes more sense that he fell on his back because of the grip. A legal play on Crabtree dictates Smith turns his shoulders and runs with Crabtree. A hold dictates he's squared up and arms locked on both sides with pressure applied directly from the front. You can call it press if you want but he fell when in the end zone so that becomes illegal contact after 5 yards.

Spin it all you want but it was a gift. A game called to the letter of the rules and we most likely would be taking about a 6th Championship for the 49ers.

When the defender grabs the receiver, a flag should be thrown, regardless of if it's the first play or one of the last. There is no offsetting penalties on a receiver and defender involved in the pass.

If it's felt that Crabtree initiated the contact by shoving off, then the defender grabs him, it's OPI. But it's never off-setting.

That was an INT return and perfectly legal.


Block in the back is on kick return/punt returns. You literally just quoted an entirely legal play and block. Absolutely nothing illegal with that play

Flacco made the plays I give him that. One thing I'm still not sure about though is he that great or just the luckiest QB to ever play the game, if luck is what you would call it. I have never see an NFL QB just heave the ball down field and have his receivers come down with it as much as Flacco, and he has done it most of the year. Its like he has a 75% completion rate for hail mary passes. His receivers are great at going up and getting the ball.. Wide open receivers 40 yards down field. Amazing. Or is it luck? I dunno.

Spokesperson for the refs association said the flag should have been thrown if the ball was catchable. In their eyes the ball was over thrown, and clearly not catchable. No flag was warranted. It comes down to the fact that even if Smith gets beat, Crabtree had zero chance of a reception.

Congrats to the the Ravens for accomplishing something we couldn't..beating the 49'rs in the SuperBowl. All penaltys aside it was a great game and I hope San Fran really feels the sting of losing the big one....It stinks.

Really? Because even after the hold he was almost there. I'm talking like 3 feet away. I'm calling bs on this one. It's not just that one play, I've never seen a more blatant hold in my life, and it wasn't called. Ravens didn't deserve the win. Complete bs.

I've become very cynical about the NFL these past couple of years. You had an emotional game with Ray Ray retiring, not surprised SF had calls against them, much like Seattle in XL.

Please explain why on 3rd and Goal at the 1 yard line, when Joe play fakes, rolls right out of the pocket and gets hit three yards out of bounds and that wasn't flagged for late hit or roughing the QB? That was a 4 point swing. If called properly, then we are first and goal at the 1/2 yard line. Nobody remembers that...well not the haters.
