Bengals should've signed Jacoby Jones

Jones has always been nothing special. He had a good game last night, sure, but he is about the most inconsistent receiver in the league. Dont make him out to be something thats hes not.

Love all the strawmen in here. People talking about "yeah, we shoulda drafted this HOFer, or that HOFer" are being ridiculous.

All Shake said is that he wanted the Bengals to sign Jacoby Jones last off-season, which would have added another dimension to the receiving corp, and vastly improved our ST.

I'm in total agreement, and somewhat shared his sentiment in that I wanted Jones to be a Bengal as well.

30 catches for 406 yards and 1 TD

Andrew Hawkins

53 catches for 533 yards and 4 TDs

Outside of his return skills he really wouldn't have brought much to this team. I do think he would be a good replacement for Tate, but not a starter even in 3 wide sets.

It's "hindsight". Apparently, you don't know the spelling or the definition.

If I wanted Jones before the season, it's not hindsight to say we should've signed him.

Other players I've wanted? Anquan Boldin, Robert Turbin, Casey Heyward, Cortland Finnegan, Jabar Gaffney.

I guess you got me at Gaffney. He bombed out with the Pats and Fins.

I was definitely big on Finnegan during FA.....wanted Grubbs or Nicks at guard.....I would like to have Bouldin, obviously, but figured it was a stretch.

Not really fair to compare our 3rd most targeted receiver to Jacoby Jones, who was behind Boldin (65 catches), Pitta (61 catches), Ray Rice (61 catches), and Torrey Smith (49 catches) in the pecking order. Plus he had to compete with Leach and Dickson (combined 42 catches) for passes. The Ravens spread the ball out.

Yeah...it's hindsight. It has nothing to do with a team that doesn't sign 1st, 2nd, or 3rd tier free agents. Couldn't be that.

Jones was also a Pro Bowl kick returner. The receiving is just a bonus.

He'd be a starter in 3 wide sets here.

I just gave you our 3rd WR in 3 wide sets who did better this season and he was hurt 2 games. He is Brandon Tate, but better at returning.......

It is hinesight... Saying we should've done something is always hinesight.. and theres nothing to do about that now except ***** about it which is what the OP wants to do..

What makes a 1st 2nd or 3rd teir FA.. their PRICE tag.. you dont have to spend big to get productive players... recent history should be more than enough prove to that effect.

And this year we will be the biggest spender in FA even if most of it is retaining our own guys. So *****ing about last year does what? NOTHING.

and my post was more to the fact that shake and blake was all over the FA threads last offseason wanting to sign just about everyone and alot of those guys probly didnt pan out. but he pulls one example that did....

Hawkins was only the 3rd target here because he was the best healthy receiver on a pretty weak corp(outside of AJ)

If Jones had been here he would have started opposite Green and probably had decent numbers.

I disagree I think Jones is an average WR who returns well. Someone probably will over pay for him when the ravens cut him (If he is so good they'd find a way to keep him) and he will continue to be a very good return man and an average WR.

Yeah. I guess when you are the benefactor of 2 defenses blowing coverages for long TD's you deserve threads like this.

If not for Raheem Moore and Donte Whitner and Chris Culliver, no one is upset about missing Jones.

Nice return guy, got lucky as all hell in the postseason.

I wanted Finnegan or Carl Nicks, Law Firm, and a vet WR (I mentioned Manningham, Gaffney, and Jacoby Jones).

Most of those guys worked out pretty well for their respective teams (other than Gaffney).

Even Mario Williams, who most were happily calling a FA bust early in the season, wound up with 10.5 sacks for Buffalo.
