Re: Please Sign Him
I'd rather have Byrd, or Goldson, or Quin, or Chung, or even Delmas.
Phillips has 9 turnovers in 5 seasons, which isn't very impressive... not to mention the fact that he's only been in 56 games in 5 seasons, which is like ~11 a year. I am still on the "Throw large sums of money at Byrd until he signs with the Bengals." bandwagon.

Eric Ried, S 37. Jamar Taylor, CB 53. Travis Frederick, C 84. Jamie Collins, OLB 115. Montee Ball, RB Man... FA has really made me edit the crap out of my Wishlist/Draft... and not really for the better. |

Turnovers for a safety are a bit overrated in my opinion. Eliminating big plays and playing good coverage are what the calling card of a good safety. Generating turnovers in a large quantity is icing on the cake for a safety. For example, Phillip Thomas led the nation in interceptions this past season. He isn't even the top rated safety in this year's class!

Goldson and Byrd will likely be tagged (I would be shocked if Byrd wasn't).
Phillips may be our best option in free agency as long as he doesn't demand a ton of money. |

Byrd is either going to be franchised, or someone will pay him a massive contract. I'd expect him to sign a contract similar to Eric Weddles last year (5yr/$40,000,000), so that kind of puts him out of reach.
Phillips could be a pretty good alternative from what I've seen. |

This Byrd phenomenon reminds me of the Tyvon Branch-Eric Weddle wishing that was on here a few years ago.

I honestly feel like Chris Clemons (from the Dolphins) is the safety we should go after... he was rated the as having the best coverage skills in terms of number of first downs and touchdowns allowed on PFF. Plus he is still young, has speed, and can tackle (99 in 2012). Start him opposite of Reggie Nelson.

No way.
We need a true SS Or another guy that can play both. Reggie is more of a FS but you must play both spots in Zims defense. I still think we find our guy in the draft.

![]() ...........While Weddle went on to compile 0 games missed, 185 tackles, 1 sack, 20 passes defensed, 10 INTs, and 2 FFs in the two years since. So I wonder why the fans of Bengaldom would ever have wanted Weddle.. and now want Jairus Byrd? . .
