Bengals hire Adam Zimmer as assistant DB coach

Nepotism always bothers me on some level. That is not to say that Adam Zimmer won't be a fine coach.

But when you think about it, the Brown family should drop to their knees every day, and say "Thank God for Nepotism!"

Zimmer has coached previously with the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs, serving both teams as a defensive assistant and assistant linebackers coach. He was with the Saints from 2006-09, a member of the Sean Payton coaching staff that led New Orleans to the NFL championship in ’09 with a 31-17 victory over Indianapolis in Super Bowl XLIV.

Zimmer was with Kansas City from 2010-12. Zimmer’s term in Kansas City ended after this past season with the release of head coach Romeo Crennel and his staff.

Zimmer played defensive back in college, lettering for four seasons (2002-05) at Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas).

“Adam is a good young coach with two great experiences already in the NFL,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “He’ll assist our defensive backs coach, Mark Carrier, and I’m very confident he will do a fine job.”

Zimmer is the son of Mike Zimmer, Bengals defensive coordinator since 2008.

He's young but experienced. Maybe a chip off the old block. He probably threw his first football at two. I like the hire. Probably two dreams come true for the Zimmers.

It will still be big Zim's show, but I think little Zim will help the DBs by coaching them to play within the scenarios that big Zim's calls create.

i think mark has carried out the wishes of his DC in regards to ceverage and down and distance.

Acknowledged, but its been taken it to a comically new level within this organization. Ownership, I get it... Sharing the wealth amongst your family. I think it was a great hire. He has the credentials for an assistant position coach position. At least most of you have said the right things, the comments on Facebook right now make me want to punch someone. All they can do is comment on his looks and such.

Awesome, stupid question. If Mike leaves sometime in the future can Adam take over is D-Coordinator but use the SAME playbook as his dads. That way nothing changes at all.

Let the guy earn a coaching spot without assistant attached to it before we hand over the this guy. I think its a good hire and he will have a shot to move up if he does a great job.

Adam Zimmer is more than qualified for the position. If he was not you may have a point. As it stands you have no point.

Was assistant LB coach for a Kansas City team that sent 3 Linebackers to the Pro Bowl this season.

Has worked in the NFL for seven seasons and not somebody that just fell off the turnip truck passing by.

We had the inside track with Dad being here as well. Think it is a good move for Bengals.
