That's 47 million just on the FA/trade moves you mention. Then 10+ million for rookies, so that's 57 million. We'd be over the cap with Gilberry, Newman, Jones, Howard and many others still unsigned.

I agree...and I believe MJ may be a product of the system...just like many "good" NFL players are...Andre should and will be paid for his performance...determining the value of a RT is much simpler than that of a DE..I am not going to give examples but anyone could name many DEFENSIVE players that left a system for big money and faltered with that new team....vice versa you have many players that leave a system and become better in that new system.....a RT is a RT....

Agreed about Andre is already a top RT. Not only all the points you make, but our draft position is much better for drafting a good DE replacement rather than an OT replacement if we don't sign both. Smith higher priority, with MJ second.

RTs are much easier to replace than DEs.

That is why they get paid less.

I want to keep both MJ and Dre, but if we only keep one it should be MJ. The strength of this team is the D-line, and MJ plys more snaps than any other D-lineman. he struggles for a couple of years because they kept moving him back and forth from LB to DE, but once they made him a full-time DE he has been very solid.

The Bengals have over $55 million in cap space, but by the time they re-sign their own free agents, cut out the rookie pool, and keep a little in reserve in case they have to replace an injured player during the season they will only have about $300 thousand to spend on signing any other free agents.

55.5 is the ceiling, 32 is the floor...don't look for us to blow the entire wad of cash this season, plus if we lock up our nucleus, that ceiling gets a lot smaller real quick.

They have to reach that number but it does not have to be thru signing free agents. First and foremost they need to wrap up their own young and productive players. Michael Johnson, Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, Andre Smith,etc. Then bring back guys such as Thomas Howard and Wallace Gilberry oh also Josh Brown.

When the smoke settles from these ventures then see what is left to look into outside free agents. Personally, I would be happy with signing our own landing a good young LB such as DeAndre Levy or Justin Durant and maybe a CB like Sean Smith, Anotione Cason, Derek Cox, or Bradley Fletcher. Maybe take a serious shot at a safety such as Chris Clemons. But a LB and a CB would suit me just fine.
