Top rated safety and top 5 player in most draft pundits eyes. Is it a longshot for him to fall all the way to us at 21?
I, for one would absolutely love to have him and Reggie occupy the back end for years to come but I just can't see him falling to us that late. Shawn Williams seems like a solid choice to me in this draft if Elam and McDonald are off the board by the time we want to pick a safety. He reminds me of Sean Taylor 2.0 Discuss ![]() |

Re: is Vaccaro at 21 realistic?
I do not see it as realistic at all. I have seen him being selected as high as#6.

Wow. That is really high for a S. He must be all that and a bag of chips. The good thing is how many quality S prospects there are. Should be able to find one somewhere in the first 4 rounds.

Absolutely agree we should walk out of the first 4 rounds improved at the position.

S, like TE, could very well fall to us late 1st round.
I suspect someone may take a stab at him, but the teams picking in the top 10 would be fools to take him IMO. But then again, that's probably why they're picking top 10 perennially. I could see St. Louis grabbing him, MAYBE Miami, but that's pushing it considering WR's should be available in that area as well. If he falls, he's best available. But he might, still, be left on the board. And there's really only a few other choices that I'd be o.k. with should that happen.

He could be there. A lot of scouts have him rated as a second or third round prospect.

Re: is Vaccaro at 21 realistic?
All that can be said to this is wow. I can honestly say I have not seen any of this from any reports I have read and I have looked at virtually every source that I can find on safeties so I would love for you to link these reports as I would be very interested in reading them.

Like Elam or Vaccaro. Would be ecstatic with either.
But did see RB. Joseph Randle make Vaccaro hug T'eo's girlfriend a couple times in open field situations. So he may drop some in draft.

Cyprien over Elam hands down for me.

IMO Vaccaro would finally bring young stability to a position that hasn't had it for years. |

Last year some people thought Mark Barron would be there at 17, before he had a great
combine and pro day and was the only safety worthy of a first round pick. Vaccaro as of now is basically Barron, but there's still a lot of time before we can say he's improved or destroyed his stock. If he does nothing special (which is what I'm hoping) I expect him to there at 21.

Do you believe that he is a better prospect than Eric Berry coming out of Tennessee? I just don't think that he's on that level and shouldn't warrant a top ten selection. Now is he a solid all around player w/a high ceiling I'd have to say yes. I think its very realistic that the 15-21 range may be where hes selected when its all said and done. There are players just as talented w/ probowl potential if we can't get him. I even expect a player like JJ Wilcox out of Georgia Southern to make bolt up draft boards after the combine.

My biggest worry is that he turned down the Senior Bowl for no apparent reason.

It all depends on what happens in the coming months.
I've seen players skyrocket from a 2nd-3rd rounder to a top 10 pick (Jason Smith, Stephon Gilmore) due to the combine/off season and I've seen players drop off the face of the earth in those same workouts (Vontaze Burfict, Ryan Mallett). Then there are the players that start high and fall down a round or two, like Da'Quan Bowers or Marvin Austin. We basically have to wait and see how all the players do in the workouts. See if interviews surface any off the field issues. See who recovers well from their injuries etc. As it stands right now, I doubt Vacarro is there when we pick. The good news is there is a second safety in this class who is just as talented and reminds me a lot of Mark Barron, who I really wanted last year. And that's Eric Reid. By the end of the draft season, he will be worth our first round pick, maybe even if Vacarro and he are both there.

I think it is way too early to say if he will be there at 21 or not. Mark Barron's success could help Vaccaro become a higher pick or as someone else mentioned sometimes positions like TE and Safety fall in the first round because a lot of teams will look for a DE, OT, QB, or DT with a top 15 to 20 pick. The one reason I can see him falling this particular season is the amount of Defensive Lineman projected in the 1st round. Various sites have up to about 14 defensive lineman as first rounders this year so a position like Safety may be overlooked early for most teams.

This could be a strange draft because it is very weak at two traditionally high draft positions being QB and RB. The good news it is strong at DT and DE which may be our strongest area so we don't need to address those needs in the first round. There is also one guard that looks top 15 with is unusual. There are a few OT's that will go top 15 as well, at a minimum 2.
So, there is a chance a top 10 prospect could drop, it depends on teams needs in round one. I could see the Steelers garbbing a safety because of Troy and Clark being older as a previous poster stated earlier.

Would not be opposed to drafting Vaccaro at 21.
Sets up the safety spot and would really upgrade the defense.

I might be warming up to Vacarro at #21 because I didn't like Mark Barron at all last year and I was dead wrong.

Did you inform your previous man crush Phillip Thomas that you were in love with someone else?
I don't think Vaccaro or any safety for that matter is realistic at 21 for the sole reason that Marvin doesn't seem to covet the position. |

May be right ? Did not get to see him play much. Only one game last season and did not focus much on him. Watched Elam a fairly good amount and may only be leaning that way because of the familiarity fact alone. Will check out Cyprien on film. But either way ? Like a safety early unless a stud FA one is signed.
