Lindsey Vonn (Gold Medal Winner) Seriously Injured

I'm a pretty big fan of Lindsey Vonn (It helps she's pretty damn attractive) but this is horrible. Especially when she is an extreme competitor who took home a Gold for USA. Thoughts?

I watched that video for the first time today. It was really painful to watch. I'm surprised he was able to get up from it (despite dying later from internal injuries).

The worst thing is that it is less than a year until the Winter Olympics.

Skiing is one of those sports that a lot of people don't care about until the Winter Olympics come around. This is going to cost Lindsey millions in lost endorsements. She is the most famous skier in the United states right now. She would have made tons of money during and after the Olympics.

Unless, of course, you're Austrian. We love that sports - for whatever reason. Probably because we win something sometimes.

-- Well, thoughts... the race probably shouldn't have been started. The sight was mediocre at best, the athletes had to wait for several hours due to the race being postponed in 15min-steps, there was rather much snow on the track - all factors that increase the probability of an accident.

Lindsey will be missed. She's hot, she's a bit annoying at times, she's the one most people know - and she's the one to beat. With her gone, every winner will be a second rate winner, especially when it comes to the downhill race.
Let's hope for a quick recovery (although it's not too probable).

--- But it gave Julia Mancuso (who I personally consider more attractive, but people tend to disagree an that one) opportunity to shine a bit... bronze medal for her and the US team. One more than Austria gained.

Exactly. Hopefully she can make a speedy recovery. Thanks to Adrian Peterson and his incredible season, I do believe he opened the door for athletes to realize they can make speedy recoveries and still be great.

There are parts of the US where it is pretty big. I lived in Colorado for a few years, and ski racing was a high scholl sport out there.

Wow, I just found out Colorado is three times as big as Austria...
...and I heard skiing is an issue there. Still, successful ski athletes in Austria are the nation's biggest heroes for centuries, I think it's still way more serious here than there.

Oh, and rumor has it that Lindsey showed Tim Tebow the pleasures of not being a virgin. Now Tiger Woods, that's news to me.

Vonn has two torn ligaments in her right knee and a broken bone in her lower leg. She says she plans on being back in time for the Olympics which start a year from this week. Says she should be back on skis in 6 to8 months.

Yeah, it's not just looks for me. Julia is funny, with a hint of crazy, seems nice and easy going and natural - Lindsey always seems a bit over the top, like a little princess, self-centered, a bit annoying and a bit phony... ah well.

So that's that. Mind if I capture that thread for a bit of Skiing WM talk? After all, it takes place in one of Austrias more famous skiing regions right now...

...and Ted Ligety won gold for the US in the Super G, probably ultimately stepping out of the light shadows of a Bode Miller or Daron Rahlves, confirming he's one of the sports all time greats. Guy deserves some celebration.

Tomorrow is men's downhill, might be spectacular (I guess it would be at 5 in the morning for you guys, which seems like a bad time) - with Guay from Canada, Innerhofer and Paris from Italy, Kröll and Reichelt from Austria and Mancuso-boyfriend Svindal as probable favourites.

To maybe make all that worth noting, I add a picture of a pretty skiing lady:

Well, these are not pretty skiing babes, these are just pretty babes put on skis (and snowboards) for photoshooting purposes. That doesn't count.

...right now is the women's downhill event. (5 racers and already two accidents...) - But the sun is shining, and everyone is happy as hell. Tina Maze, already having one one gold and one silver here, once again is top favourite. She's sweet too. Observe:

FYI, the super combined slalom takes place at 1200 your time. You might as well witness another Ted Ligety medal.

(Ladies' downhill brought a big surprise, Rolland from France won. I don't post a pic, for she's not too pretty. I was happy for her though, I usually favor the not so pretty athletes, because the pretty ones - well, they're already pretty. Blessed enough.)
