Ok, playing off of the last time machine question comes another question. Knowing how bad the Bengals have been for so long and all the disappointments over the years, if you were in a time machine and when you picked your initial team to follow and love in football, would you pick the Bengals again knowing what you as a fan would incur over the years/decades?

To be honest, if I went back in time the with the knowledge I have, the team I choose to follow is so trivial I probably wouldn't notice.

Being totally honest, no I wouldn't.
I have no geographical loyalty, so that doesn't matter much. I became a fan during the 88-89 superbowl run. If I had been able to pick a team I knew would have great success, I certainly would have. That being said, I love being a Bengals fan and I'm certainly not going to change my loyalties anytime soon. I've stuck with them through thick and thin...things might have been a bit more exciting if I were a fan of another team though.

I'd bring Paul Brown along with me so he'd be convinced to hire Bill Walsh over Tiger Johnson, which was the first really big mistake the franchise made, followed by the ensuing 20 year+ Mikey debacle.

I'd change teams if I moved to another city which had one. With the exception of Cleveland and Pitt.

I was born in the 90's. Was a fan of them then. Guarantee I've seen the worse (I've never been alive when the Bengals won a playoff game)

Voted no before I read the post. I would still root for the Bengals in the situation provided, but honestly if I had a time machine there is no way I care about football. Too much other awesome stuff to do until I die.

Re: If You Had A Time Machine Part Deux
Definately, I love the team, and I love pro football, why follow a team if you can't go watch them play?

Yes !
![]() Would never band wagon a team from a city I never lived near or had not even visited just because they have had more success. Hate those fans !

I voted yes, and here's why...
Like some others here, I have no geographic loyalty; I am a north Jersey boy, knocking on 50. In every other sport, I support teams local to the area I grew up in, i.e. Yanks, Knicks, & Devils... My grandparents relocated to Dayton, Oh. in the mid 60s, and my grandfather had already been a big fan of Paul Brown & his Browns teams. Most of all, Gramps idolized PB and found it only natural to support the old coach and his new expansion team. He was a season ticket holder since the Nippert days until the day he died, just before the '88 season...(too bad he didn't get to see that last SB run) Anyway, gramps brainwashed me at an early age, and brought me to my first game against the Vikes (I'm thinking it was back in '73) I do remember the Bengals shut out the Vikes. Some of you may remember that the team started the season 4-4, but won the last 6 regular season games to win the division. I watched my heart break when they lost to the 'Fins in the playoffs that year. But I was hooked, and when Kenny Anderson started to develop, I found my Bengal hero; a guy from a division III school that became an elite QB...it's a tragedy that he's not in the HOF! Another tradegy has been the way PB's son took over this team, however, lately, he's been showing a propensity to accept and make changes. In any event, I am a loyalist...true to my teams...the Yanks and Devils have brought me championships, the Knicks did win two when I was 7 & 10, so it's been a good while for them... But I can truly say now, that when the Bengals finally win a SB, it will mean more to me than all my other fav. team's championships. Heck I've stuck with this team thru the MB era, so I will never let go...unless of course, the team is sold off and moved to the west coast. Last edited by chasf316; 02-12-2013 at 06:46 PM. |

When I first started following football in 93-94, we were in the thick of the Klingler era. I lived in NKY, and kids just didn't openly follow the Bengals back then. So in my first couple years as a fan, I bought Chiefs and Cowboys gear and tried following their teams. I always did wind up watching the Bengals games though. Especially when Blakemania started.

Hmmm...I live in western Pennsylvania where literally everyone is a Steelers fan. They've been to 4 Super Bowls since 96 and my relatives bought me Steelers gear for Christmas. Meanwhile we always talk about how next year we will win a playoff game after 23 years of failure. After this said failure I endure threads about 'Do the Bengals need a GM' where half the supporters base it on future success that never happens or playoff appearances. Yet...these same people talk about it like it will happen for sure the next year.
I'd also buy about a ton of silver and be a millionaire.

I was a Packers fan the first year I watched the NFL. To this day Donald Driver and Darren Sharper are some of my favorite players. If I never saw those guys play when I did idk if id ever been a football fan.
So honestly yeah I think id be a Packers fan. I was young and naive I went from one of the best to one of the worse. We do have the coolest helmets in the league though so I guess it evens out. ![]()

I am from Toronto, and it would be easy for me to just jump on any bandwagon. But I will die a Bengals fan, and when this team wins a Super Bowl, no fan base will be more deserving to celebrate in a massive parade!
Being a fan (short for fanatic), means being there for the ups and downs.

In my mind its not really a choice. I was born in Cincinnati.
You can change a dirty pair of socks. You can even change your wife. But you can NEVER, NEVER change your football team. ![]()

If I had a way back machine and could go back, I would still be a Bengals fan.
I would have sold drafting tips to Paul Brown, and the Bengals would have won more than one Super Bowl. Also I would have done my best to make sure Paul Brown would not have put Mike as head honcho. Think of the Bengals putting Stallworth next to Curtis, or Keeping Burgey at MLB. Having Bacon for more than two years. Think of the Bengals trading #1 with Dallas and getting Doresett rather than Griffen. Think of Greg Cook being pulled for the KC game and not getting injuried. Where is this Way Back Machine? I could save tons of heart aches for lots of people in Cincy. Think of Pisxburgh never winning a AFC Title, that alone would be great.
