And in case you wanted more bad news, the Browns are rumoured to be "very interested" in Johnson as well. Could turn into a bidding war. Better get that franchise tag ready.

Let him go or franchise tag him.
Sign Andre to a 1 or 2 year deal.

Man, I hope they're wrong. If they're right, then I did not see that coming at all. I'm not seeing it honestly, but maybe I'm wrong.

Mike Brown should not over pay him.

Always been one of the biggest MJ fans (one of the very few that think he has been more valuable than Dunlap). However, the price of becoming an elite organization is having to make difficult choices as these.

I didn't mean it to sound like overpay, just pay him fair market value. He's a young, rising star in the NFL. The team would be fool hardy to let him get away.

The best thing we can do is just tag him now. Get it over with.

Yup. Expect a Charles Johnson-like contract around 6 years/$75M

Sign MJ to a multiyear deal and franchise Andre or just let him go. The guy I saw in the Eagles game seems replaceable to me.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit. They overpaid Rucker too. Otherwise he'd still be here.
They are going to the 3-4 and need a speedy pass rusher. They need 4 solid LBs and only have one currently on the roster. So if they don't make a splash in FA or the draft they are screwed. If we tag MJ they wouldn't touch it. I thought I heard they don't have a 2nd rounder this year so that would diminish their draft too much.

The situation sorta reminds me of the old JJo-Leon debate.
Which one do you sink the money into Dunlap or MJ? |

He has played OLB before (in a 4-3 obviously), but they'd probably just have him mostly rush the passer like Ware. Quote:
![]() He's gonna get paid. He's 26 years old coming off 11.5 sacks. Someone will overpay because of the fluky season he had. That's why I've been saying to let him walk. Geno is the man we need to pay on that line. No one else should get major $.

Will they value Dunlap's pass rush or MJ's durability more.

I wouldn't pay him that much, unfortunately for him he has be consistent enough to me to merit that kind of contract. That's just my opinion, consistency is key to merit that kind of contract, I don't see it.

This is the Hall/Joseph scenario all over again. We can't sign them both so the organization has to decide which one they want to give the money too. Can't have them both, not for 10 million a year, along with Atkins, Green, and Dalton up next.
If the organization likes Dunlap more then they will offer MJ a 5-6 million per yr that he either takes or doesn't. And visversa if the team likes MJ, they will pay him this yr and offer a 5-6 million per yr to Dunlap next yr. I know fans want us to sign everyone, but we can't pay huge money to everyone. It just doesn't work that way, so it just comes down to who the organization values more..... |

Not really his fault that the coaches wouldn't commit him to one position. As soon as he started playing DE full time, he's gotten better every year. 11.5 should merit a pretty big contract.

And that's your opinion, which is fine, but you can kiss goodbye to dunlap after this year.

Cause you can't spend huge money on Dalton, Atkins, Green, Gresham, Dunlap, Hall, Reggie Nelson, Andre Smith, Taz (soon if he keeps improving), and MJ. It would be nice, but you have to pick which guys you wanna pay the big money to. You can't just sign big contracts cause its been working, because eventually you'll hit a stopping pt cause you can't afford it anymore....
