Default Who are the superstars in this draft?

And will the Bengals have a shot at any of them? Who might be available to the Bengals who has superstar potential? Is there anyone you think might be a great player who is flying under the radar a bit? Is there a Geno Atkins out there, and my that I mean lower pick who turned out great?

There are no bona fide stars in this draft. Just a good deep draft of solid football players that should have good solid careers.

You don't really even see a consensus number one. Joeckel seems to be the closest, but beyond him, who?

And there are no QB's who seems to have star written all over them from what I've read.

Geno Smith is probably the biggest star power but he is even sketchy. I agree Joeckel is a consensus#1 but you just do not get that star power from the OT position. Even though LT could be the most important position in the game. People just don't get excited over it.

I think Jarvis Jones is a star in the making.
Von Miller 2,0

After that, I really like Luke Joeckel and Star Lotulelei.

Star will require a double team literally every play.
And Joeckel is a franchise tackle day 1.

Then, of course, Barkevious Mingo and Ezekiel Ansah have the potential to be elite pass rushers as well. The comparisons for them would be The Freak and JPP, respectively.
Very stereotypical comparisons for athletic pass rushers nowadays, but there you go.

However, both have high bust potential and could end up having Vernon Gholston type careers.

Really? When has there ever been a draft where that hasn't produced 1 superstar? There may not be a surefire #1 overall pick, but there will be at least 1 superstar out of this group.

I agree about Star. Probably another Ngata. I believe he'll wind up in Jacksonville or Oakland and become a great player who is ignored because of the team he's on.

Joekel will be a Pro-Bowl OT.

Going out on a limb on the following guys:

Patterson out of UT. It's boom or bust here, but he has all the talent to be a big timer.
Jarvis Jones. If his injury is not an issue AND he gets in the right system, he will be special.

Man this sure isn't a great year to pick in the top 10. We would be in trouble if this was the crop two years ago when we were eye deep in carson and ocho mess. We would still be picking in the top 10.

I am gonna go with Star, the Germanator, and Elam.

I'm just a fan, and have no league insight, but....

potential diamonds in this Draft:

Josh Boyce, WR, TCU
Marquis Goodwin, WR, TCU
Larry Warford, G, Kentucky
Travis Kelce, TE, Cincinnati
Matt Scott, QB, Arizona
Sean Renfree, QB, Duke
Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern
Khaseem Greene, LB, Rutgers
Zavier Gooden, LB, Mizzou

Tony Jefferson gets my vote. I think he's the best safety in this class but he's so underrated for whatever reason. I think his main problem is that he just needs to be fine-tuned and have his game brought to the next level, which is mostly just eliminating mistakes like bad angles.

However, seeing as how we have so many needs, I think we can grab a safety a lot earlier than that and I'd snatch up Elam because a bad-*** safety and is solid at covering tight ends. He might not have the best instincts when covering from safety, but I want him for strong safety, so it's not as important if he was a free safety I want him in the box and lighting people up.

Agreed. Matt elam is underrated.

Hes viewed as a very late first or second rounder. I would be happy taking him in the first. If we made it out of the draft with elam and gio bernard i would be pumped.

Jarvis Jones, Werner, and Hopkins. I think those 3 will be Pro-Bowlers and the best from this draft

I would be less than happy with a first round selection of Elam.

The talent difference from #21 to where matt elam is projected is minimal at best. Plus he fits a top need. There are surprisingly few prospects in the 15-25 range that are a perfect fit for us, especially at a need. If we look at our very top needs it would be safety, lb, rb. No rb is worth our 1st. No olb is worth our first(within reason), however there are safetys that project to be around during out first. Vaccaro and elam. Most people have elam as late first early second. but many people also have elam as #1 safety big board wise.

Would not argue the projections at all. I am by no means a scout but the more tape I see of Elam the more I see an overrated player. The image of him getting an Int is a rare picture indeed. He just does not have very good ball skills and I see him attempting way too many arm tackles.

If it were not for off the field issues then it is very possible that the#1 projected safety could be Rambo (nothing to do with his name as some have suggested). After watching much film on safeties I just see some guys I like much better than Elam. Cyprien, Thomas, and Rambo in particular.

If we were talking about Elam in the third then I could see the value. That is merely my opinion though.

Default Re: Who are the superstars in this draft?

A lot of us thought that Geno had potential with his athleticism and hustle from the DT spot, but I don't know of many that knew he'd be a star. He's not your normal star either, its not like he is taking advantage of playing around playmakers....he is the guy the offense has to worry about. I don't know how you pick a Geno out of this draft, and if anyone does they should get an extra 200 rep or something.

I don't know about superstars, but I'll give three mid round picks that could put up big stats and make a pro bowl given the right situation. One of them is TE Jordan Reed from Florida. He's not a giant, but he's big enough to hold his own in traffic and has the extra gear to take a few passes the distance. He's not at all a traditional TE, but with the way offenses are using these pass catching TE's don't be shocked if a young QB uses him as a safety valve and he racks up the stats.

The other two are underachievers that have the physical goods but are looking like 3rd round picks. One is Landry Jones. He has the arm, can make the throws and is polished enough (minus the throwing motion) for a team to take in the 3rd and win the #2 job. Watch a team like the Jets or Cowboys take him and give him a shot at the end of the year if they bench their struggling QB. David Amerson was overhyped a year ago and hasn't shown great man coverage skills to keep up with a starting NFL receiver. He does however have great range in zone and could be a ballhawk of a FS or Cover 2 corner. His hips are fluid enough to get the job done, and I could see him putting up the stats in a year or two to make a Pro-Bowl.

I really like Gio Bernard. I saw him on ESPN the other day and the dude's build screams Ray Rice. That and the fact that he was a statistical monster at UNC make him my pick. I really hope that the Bengals can snag him. He's the home-run back that they need.

Also really like Larry Warford. He was buried on a terrible UK team, but still dominated first-round caliber tackles. I'd only be mildly surprised to see him sneak into the late first round.
