Today is the day (20th) that Sony will be releasing the long awaited Sony Playstation 4, and what I believe to be the next wave of next generation gaming (sorry, WiiU, that's not it). I am personally a HUGE Xbox fan, but I cannot help but be excited at the possibilities. I will keep this thread as up to date as possible. Feel free to speculate, complain, cheer and whatever else. :)

Killzone: Shadow Fall looks pretty slick. I still do not believe it is 'high end pc gaming'. The make or break is going to be the price for me, and a lot of others.

Unofficially, November. They have yet to show it, show price or release date. A lot of gimmicky non-sense, some pretty sweet gameplay trailers. Nothing mind blowing at the moment. Perhaps TOO much social integration for my taste.

Rumors are $450, which wouldn't be bad at all.

So glad they stopped calling it the xbox 720 and have just called it the xbox instead.

Although I could see it being called something along the lines of the xbox HD.... but not the 720.

Read somewere there will be two option's. One for 429 and another for 529 and should be realeased november this year. Also touch screen remotes, quicker downloads"thank god" and will be backwards compatible. I am ****ing pumped.

Watched the announcement, and I was pretty impressed. Great concepts and very good graphics, however, little to no gameplay was shown. I would like to see how it all comes in together, but that's for E3. Overall, I liked what I saw, but they need to confront the playback features along with pricing.

Well consoles are pretty much gaming PC's so that makes since as Gaming PC's are generally the High end (or High Priced) PC's

If the games are going to be 99 bucks a pop, I will not purchase a PS4. However I see the games hovering in the 75 dollar range IMO.

Still to much... hell 60$ is more than 75% of games released are worth...

If the whole next gen is like that ill be waiting a while before joining.

Console architecture has held back gaming since the early 2000's. The PS4 is the first gaming platform to run with 64 bit arch. which will finally make porting the games over to PC easier and allow them to run better on PC however the PS4 will only be a marginal platform when compared to PC rigs, definitely not high end.

Is the “holding back” necessarily a bad thing? I don’t think so. Not everyone can afford a high end gaming PC. Therefore if that was where game developers focused their efforts less games would be developed because there would be less of a market.

Overall thats the point of a gaming system..

Every game you buy for it. (provided you buy the games for it) will work at a quality level.


Maybe not High end But that term is realitive..... One wouldnt consider PS3 or Xbox 360 high end now because they are 7 years old... But they are definately little PC's designed with gaming at mind.
It does set limitation because no one is upgrading their gaming console at least not legally. But it also ensures the game you paid 60$ for or more will work. Which is why i dont game on PC any more.

$99.99 for a game? I don't even like spending $60 now, hell I remember thinking $40 was pushing it for PS2 games.

Based on what you said here it certainly seems Sony may not have learned from the issues surrounding their PS3 launch. They showed the tech, the graphics, they made the promises, but have said NOTHING about the gaming. With the PS3 they expected developers to flock to it because of the tech and they were spoiled by the success of the PS2. They lost exclusive titles in droves, and never caught up with the promise or the potential of the rig. And honestly, aside from playing blue rays, the XBOX was better value, more titles, many more and better exclusive games and was easier to develop for according to the game shops. And don't get me started on the launch titles. The games available for the PS3 at launch were pathetic, and did not improve rapidly and neve caught up with the Wii or Xbox.

So here comes the PS4 with no news about the GAMES or exclusive titles, but just the tech and the costs. Have they learned NOTHING? I won't buy it. My PS mostly collects dust anyway unless Im watching Blue-Rays. I do 95% of my gaming on the XBOX and PC.

Well there I am biased as i don't play console games online, and thus do not spend the 50$.........but then again if I did, i would pay it gladly. 50$ is nothning for an entir year of entertainment, and i consider it a very weak argument to point to that as an advantage for PS3. That's only a viable argument if you have little to no income and can't afford the price of a date for a year of entertainment. It's ludicrous.

I don't believe 100$ per game. They don't have the launch library and to justify that. They would have to come up with exclusive titles that will not be released opn any other system, and I consider that highly unlikely. Gamer aren't going to pay double the cost ofr ag ame when they can play it on the XBOX. And developers aren't going to develop exclusively for a single console that is new on the street because they make money by VOLUME. Can't sell in high volumes when you're only developiong a game for a single console with low numbers of units being purchased. It's a catch 22 for SONY, and developers aren't going to save them after the fisaco's of developing for the PS3.
