Default Bengals plan to practice in Springboro

According to the Dayton Daily News the Springboro school board will be voting on the approval of a contract to allow the Bengals to practice at the high school football field. Does anyone know anything about this?

Outside of me apparently destined to visit a football field in Springboro, nope. Good news for us Dayton-area fans.

If they do it will be a good opportunity for me to go visit family in the area and see the Bengals at same time.

I went to the DDN's pay site and read the article. There are a lot of typical schoolboard agenda items, so I culled out all the information reagrding just the Bengals:

Also Thursday, the board is expected to approve a contract with the Bengals for the team to practice in the district’s football stadium from 4:30 p.m.- 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19.

There will be no charge for admission, but the district is permitted to charge $5 a car for parking and operate concessions during the practice.

The Bengals are to pay $500 rent.

The district expects 2,000-3,000 people to attend the practice.

“It would be a big event,” Business Manager Jeff Madden told the board during a May work session.

Superintendent Todd Petrey said Ohio Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Clearcreek Twp., helped arrange for the Bengals practice.

I'm guessing they have a practice bubble?

When will that be? Training camp won't be there, will it? I guess it wouldn't be that bad because it's probably under an hour, but Paul Brown is 5 minutes away.

Practice an hour away? Seems pretty, well, dumb to me

Didn't read far enough ahead, I was under the impression they were practicing there all year

I don't live near Dayton. But I think it's very good P. R. work for the Bengals. I hope we can switch a few Browns fans.

They practiced a few years ago at the University of Dayton field. Just showing some love to the Dayton fans...

And aint nuthin' wrong with that. It seems like, from a marketing standpoint, since the departure from Wilmington, the Bengals have concentrated their efforts south of town and ceded most of the state to the Clowns. There are far too many Clowns fans in the Dayton area given its close proximity to the 'natti. That needs to change. They're all descedents of fans from the 50s and 60s and root for a team three hours and half a century away.

I'm guessing there will be more than the 2-3k they're estimating will show up. I'm not familiar with "Careflight Field." Is it a nice facility? Lots of bleachers? I assume it must be nice or the Bengals wouldn't be showing up.

Not familiar with the field but there were more like 5+k that showed up at UD. It was miserably hot that day and they had like one concession line that took about 1 hr. to get through. It was bad but my boy got some good autographs.

This is good news, I used to work in Springboro and my father-in-law lives like 10 minutes from the high school.

Great news for us Dayton fans.

Careflight Field
Springboro High School
1675 S. Main St., Springboro
4:30 p.m.- 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19.

That's the last item I've seen mentioned in the DDN. Somneone please advise if there's been an update.

If you're coming from Cincinnati, I highly recommend taking 741 directly north out of mason. S. Main street and 741 are the same road. The field and the school will be on the left heading northbound. We live in springboro and use that route to kings island.

75 north to 73 east to 741 south works for those close to 75, but traffic in old town springboro can get bad on game nights, plus a lot of northern fans will be coming south on 741, clogging things up even more.

Edit: I see i'm a VIP member. 90 posts in four years is a VIP? Lol, high standards :)

A couple of updates:

1) there is construction on 741 south of SHS. I live nearby, so i'm watching carefully and will update as we approach the August 19 date.

2) the school board has officially approved the stadium rental, so this is definitely happening. (if you had any idea about how screwed up the springboro school board was, you'd have known that it wasn't a done deal - but it has been voted on asif a few days ago)
