This thread is absurd.

Jon Gruden > Marvin Lewis

It isn't even close.

I wasn't comparing him to Marvin Lewis. I didn't say Marvin Lewis should remain here.
I was just stating that I don't think Jon Gruden is the man to replace him.

Gruden inherited a great team with the Bucaneers. Yes he still had to do some coaching, but he still just 14 games over .500. Marvin Lewis is 7 games under .500 that is a 10 year comparison.

Again, my intent isn't comparing Lewis and Gruden. I'm not buying in to Gruden.

Yes he brings a lot of energy and passion, but after 10 years of coaching his career winning percentage is .540.

That includes going 12-4 the year he won the Super Bowl after taking over Tony Dungy's team that was a contender the year before.

Not that Brian Billick's winning percentage is much better (.556). I'm not sure if the NFL has passed over Billick's knowledge but I remember his offenses as a coordinator were pretty potent. - But he had a great team to work with too- Vikings

Jack Del Rio and Cam Cameron might be interesting choices.

I guess you could make a reasonable for or against any of these guys... I'm just not a fan of Jon Gruden.
That right there alone is enough to make me want him over Marvin.

Gruden would be a huge difference. Just imagine the message it would send to the league, players and the fans. That type of hiring would signal a TRUE change for this organization.

When I think of great QB's Brad Johnson doesn't pop into mind. Great defense yes but great team no.

And how come nobody ever says Tony Dungy only won in Indy bdcause he inherited a great Colts team but I hear this about Gruden all the time. Gruden is a great football coach and mind period.

Default Re: Which head coach you like to be our next coach?

1: Marvin isn't going anywhere until his contract is up, unless it's his decision.

2: Jon Gruden would not take the job even if offered because he wouldn't upstage his brother.

He hasn't coached in 4 years so there isn't much in the 'what have you done lately' department but before he left he did go from 9-3 to 9-7 and out of the playoffs and out of a job completely in his most recent work so I can understand the skepticism of Gruden there myself as well
