France has sent 500 troops followed by an additional 1000 to Mali to combat Islamic terrorist organizations. The Islamic organizations are rebel organizations that have been seizing territory in the north of the country and instituting an extremist version of Sharia Law. The military-led government of Mali asked the French to intervene. The U.S. is supplying intelligence data and logistical support.



In a reaction, terrorists in Algeria, Mali's northern neighbor, seized western hostages at an oil refinery. The terrorists announced the hostage-taking was a direct response to the French troops entering Mali.

We had to do that.

Djihaddists were overcoming south Mali and were a threat for all west african countries.

They asked for help and we went to help them.

Those terrorists groups were cutting hands, throwing rocks to women, burqqa, same mad people than the talibans.

Unfortunately, talking is useless to these people.

Most of the malian people are pleased someone helped them.

Support to our troops and soldiers.

Been following it. Good for France, helping out their old colony, with an established relationship, which even asked for its help.

I found the part about the "brand" of Islam practiced in Mali to be of particular interest. Having a shining beacon like that certainly seems like something to fight for.

Algerian helicopters attacked the oil refinery where the terrorists were holding hostages and killed 30 of the hostages.
