This is the start of a new era and there's no reason to think this team is uncapable of controlling its own destiny. They are young, talented, highly competitive, and most importantly hungry to win. This is not a team of divas looking to pad their stats or guys who care more about getting themselves in trouble off the field. There is humility and good work ethic exhibited in this locker room so don't expect to see this team fold like you predict. San Diego has looked awful pretty much all season. They are prone to implode at all times and will do so this Sunday. Cheer up, you're actually able to see an era of good Cincinnati football.....if you would just open your eyes a little bit.

Nice post man.

Remember 9-6 against the Chiefs anyone? The ravens haven't exactly been as dominant as people would like to think their record indicates.
Loss by 1 to Philly...
Win by 1 over New England...
Wins by 7 and 10 over Cleveland...
Win by 2 over Dallas (and that was better defined as a Dallas loss)...
Loss by 30 to Houston...
Win by 3 over Pittsburg...
Win by 3 over San Diego...in OT....

Now other than blowing out Oakland (which says what?) and our first game, that didn't get out of hand til late, where do you see a scary team at in those games? Fairly pedestrian really. We could've swung our games different and have their record just as easily as theirs could've swung to have ours.

I think we will beat them down the next time we meet them.

nice post ,, showing win and losses..
i look at the schedules to see who beat who to give me a better idea what we are getting into,, if you look at the raven schedule http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/bal/baltimore-ravens then click on houstons schedule to see who they put the woopen on GB that just took a woopen from NYG that our Bengal put a woopen on ,

From my preseason prediction, the Cincinnati Bengals lose the next five consectutive games....losses to San Diego, Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

I have decided to not attend Lincoln Financial Fielf for the the Thursday night game as the recently concluded very expensive trip to Winnipeg to watch the Bengals `dominate`(my word) or in my best friend`s (Raider`s fan) words ``being cheated by the referees``...so if anyone wants my ticket.......

The replies to this poll does have many opinions. I agree the San Diego game is key....the rest will follow.

But as any long term fan of the Cincinnati Bengals knows, the Bengals play poorly on the West Coast. The excuse that the loss in San Dego would be first and foremost on Coach Lewis does not consider that quarterback Andy Dalton would be the reason for the push or non push to the 2012 National Football League playoffs. The burden rests on his play alone, his use of the weapons installed are up to the quarterback.

The defensive side has been playing much better of late.

For sure, but I still can't predict the record. I gave up having expectations (high or low) a while back. I just watch every week and hope for the best.

We thought we'd win a few SBs between '06 and '10...we also thought we'd be 2-14 last season.

I'm just glad that we're relevant and that I've been spending recent weeks looking forward to the next game as opposed to trying to forget about the last. This is what makes it fun.

Here's some research.

We played the Chargers 9 times in those ten years, and won 7 times. Six of those nine games were in San Diego, and we won four.

A few highlights from these games....

1970....Bengals are only 5-6 going to San Diego. We win 17-14 despite having ZERO yards passing thanks to a punt return td by Lemar Parrish. Bengals don't lose another game until the playoffs.

1973...Essex Johnson has one of the best games ever by a Bengal RB. 121 yards rushing plus 2 receptions for 116 yards and two tds in a 20-13 win in San Diego.

1975...Bengals score 41 points in first half and wrap up a Wildcard spot in the final game of the season/

1981...From '79 to '81 the Chargers were one of the dominate teams in the NFL winning 3 straight Division titles and playing in two AFC Championship games. In week ten the Chargers were a 4 point favorite playing at home, but the Bengals jump out to a 31-7 lead in the second quarter on the way to a 40-17 win. It is a huge victory that pushes us to 7-3 and marks us as legitimate Super Bowl contenders..........9 weeks later we beat the Chargers again 27-7 in the famous Ice Bowl to claim the AFC Championship.

1988...Icky Woods rushes for 141 yards and 2 tds in a 27-10 victory.

1990...Bengals fall behind 7-16 in the second game of the season, but rally behind two td receptions by Eddie Brown (10 catches, 178 yards) to win 21-16 in San Diego.

2009...Chargers (who finish 13-3) are 7 point favorites at home in week 15. Bengals trail by 11 in fourth quarter before Carson Palmer completes 11 of 12 passes for a td and runs for a 2 point conversion in his final two drives to tie the game with only 57 seconds left. Unfortunately the Chargers are able to hit a game winning FG with only 8 seconds left.
Any real long-time Bengals fan knows, that a playoff caliber team wins games no matter what coast. Our history shows the ability to beat San Diego when we field a quality team. Historically we win. This year should follow suit.

What do I think about our team?

-I think we are salvaging the season.
-I think that we should have 8 wins right now and maybe 9.
-We've underachieved but are righting the ship.
-We've played an extremely easy schedule and should have won the division this year.
-I think that we can get hot at the right time though still and potentially win a playoff game if we avoid injuries.

Marv HAS to run up the score every chance he gets because him sitting on the lead is like playing Russian Roulette with an automatic.

I feel better about this team than most of the recent others going into the playoffs. I can realistically see 9-7 or 10-6. But the thing I like this year is we seem to be trending up in Dec. In previous playoff runs, the Bengals have had success early in the season, then seem to limp into the playoffs. Remember losing to the jets after getting blown out by them in the last game of the season. Or last year when things had to fall our way and we got in anyways. This season we seem to be playing better towards the end than in the early season. Teams getting hot at the right time can do some damage. I like it.

I picked 9-7, but I think that is good enough to make the playoffs, so I agree with the make the playoffs but still lose the first game. Although I think we may have a chance if we can just get there.

A win today would tell me a lot about this team. Unfortunately, we still have the Steelers when they have had time to lick their wounds and Baltimore last game of the season, which you know they won't rest if they know they can knock us out of the playoffs.

I've never called anyone on here a hater, but I can't think of any other way to describe you. You're predicting that a winning team will lose 5 straight games to losing squads, and you've also been hating all year on a young QB who's been playing better than Drew Brees and Eli Manning.

I can see the Bengals going 8-8 at worst, but no way will they suddenly go on a 5 game losing streak to THESE teams:

@ Chargers: HC is on his way out. Rivers is a turnover machine.

vs Cowboys: HC is on his way out. Romo is a turnover machine.

@ Eagles: HC is on his way out. Nick Foles is starting at QB. Just cut their best D-lineman to save $.

@ Steelers: We might lose this one, but we certainly have a chance. Steelers have no run game.

vs Ravens: Ravens have been a completely different team on the road, where the no-huddle doesn't seem to work. They average around 36 points at home, only 16 points on the road.

This can't be accurate the bengals have to win to make it in if they lose they are on the ropes. Backing in is not an option.
