The Bengals will likely part ways with free agent to be Bruce Gradkowski. This will be Dalton's 3rd year in the league and a mentor is no longer needed. What is needed is a guy who can step in and win us a game if need be. Derek Anderson has a big time arm and is only 28 years old. He put up big numbers in Cleveland 2 years in a row and is currently sitting behind Newton. This will also put some pressure on Dalton to step up by bringing in a name that has already proven himself to the league.

He had one good year and since then, to the best of my knowledge, the only thing's he's proven is he's a bum. That said, he's still better than Grad. But that's like being the prettier pig in the pen.

I don't get the Gradkowski being a mentor thing, you paint the picture of him being a 13 year vet that passed all his knowledge to Dalton and has to be cut because he can't throw a football. I can't see enough of a difference to sign Anderson, and for continuity I'd be fine with keeping Bruce if that is my only option. Now, if Hue Jackson takes over then Jason Campbell could make sense.

I'd take almost anyone over Grad, but Derek Anderson wouldn't be much of an improvement. I'm hoping we draft someone like Aaron Murray or Zac Dysert in the middle rounds. Both of those guys have good arms and could push Andy if he doesn't progress next year. Also, they'd be cheaper than a vet thanks to the wage scale.

His claim to fame is one game against the Bengals with a Chuck Bresnehan Defense that had more holes in it than I-75 through Cincy.

He would be foolish to leave unless he's going to compete for a starting job and there are only a few places (AZ, Jack, Maybe Buff.) where he'd be allowed to do that. The most important thing a backup QB needs to be is solid, and that describes Gradkowski.

He looks solid, but the pads probably help that. Never bumped into him so I can't be sure.

What part is crazy? Go back and watch the Redhawks @ Buckeyes game and tell me who was the better passer between Dysert and Miller. Miller would be junk if he couldn't make plays with his legs. Dysert is a better passer that got stuck with subpar passing weapons. Harwell was his only threat. His stats speak for themselves.

Dysert has the tools to become a solid QB. He just needs to put in some NFL work to develop on his strengths. He's a typical in-the-pocket passer but can still scramble when needed. Sure he'll struggle some at first because he didn't play top teams every week to challenge him, but he's got a lot going for him to succeed in a few years in the NFL.

I do not think he would knock Dalton out of the starting role this coming year, but he could be a great developing QB and possibly be a good starter one day in the NFL.
