Im stupid and backed into someones car today. Im so mad at myself. I just wasnt paying attention and my car hit their side door and left a pretty bad dent in it, as well as a dent in mine.
My question is, should I claim with insurance or pay out of pocket? Right now, my driving record isnt exactly spotless. I have a couple of moving violations, a not at fault accident, and an at fault accident, not including this one. I pay around 120 a month for insurance and literally just started a new policy with Geico. I feel like the dent is going to cost at last a 1,000 to repair, which is making me lean toward claiming it on insurance. Also, I have collision and liability. If I claim it on both (to fix my car as well) rather than just liability, would that make my rate go up even more if I were to claim it on liability alone?

What is your deductible? Putting the claim in for both the other vehicle and yours will not make the policy go up more that just claiming the other vehicle. Insurance companies go by incidents, and this would be considered one incident.

Please be aware that I am not fully familiar with Geico as my Agency does not represent them.

One more personal question...if you would rather take this up in PM form that is fine with me as well.
Is your policy 6 month or 12 month? What is the premium for the term? When was the other at fault accident?

Um either April or May I believe.
Im thinking of just claiming hers to get fixed and just forgetting about mine. I dont feel like paying a 500 dollar deductible.

That's the rout I would suggest to you. However be aware that your insurance will go up upon your next renewal, however there is a good chance it will go back down upon the following one. I think Geico only looks at incidents that are 3 years and newer and anything older than 3 years is not used for rating.

I figure the only way of getting out of this without spending any money is to just go ahead and run hers through the insurance and forget about mine. If I want to get it fixed down the road, my uncle owns a body shop which would hopefully do it for cheap. My loan will be up in June as well so I could also probably take the collision coverage off of my vehicle.

If I choose not to repair my car through insurance and only repair hers, I do not have to pay any kind of deductible, right?

Pretty sure the Deductible is for repairing your Car.
