2005 vs 2011/2012

If I had to choose the 2005 team or the 2012 team right now going into the playoffs, I would probably choose the 2005 team. If I had to choose a team for the next 5 years or more, I will take the the 2012 team.

Basically the 2005 team had a much superior offense than this year's team and an opportunistic style of defense. Before Carson got his knee destroyed not to mention Henry going down on the same play, that team looked unstoppable. Even Chris Berman thought they had legit chance for a Super Bowl run that year. Anyways, yeah I would take Brat, Carson, Henry, Chad, TJ, Rudi, and that o-line over this year's offense for right now.

Not only did the 2005 defense limit opponents to 19.7 ppg through their first 14 games, they also led the league 44 turnovers.

Interesting fact: NFC north QBs combined to throw 2 TDs and 18 INTs against the 05 Bengals. Those QBs were Culpepper, Favre, Kyle Orton and Jeff Garcia.

I never said the 2005 defense was better. I said the team as a whole was better and that the offense complimented the defense much better.

I think you're all wrong.

In 2005 this team had a defense set up perfectly for the offense we ran. Our offense was a quick striking group that could put up 3 touchdowns in the blink of an eye and our defense was fantastic at creating turn overs when other teams became frantic trying to mount a comeback. It reminds me of how a snake eats it's prey, first injecting it with venom that breaks down the body's mass so that it can swallow it whole.

this team may be better as whole but until the yin can balance the yang I just don't see us going far.

With that said I do like Andy more than Carson, AJ more than Chad, and will be rooting for this team in the playoffs (hoping I am wrong).

Who has been saying that? This team is better than last year or 09 but 05?? Pfft, forget about it.

Yea, this D is better. But that defense wasn't the worst in the league (although it was bad) and it did get turnovers like you said. The main reason that 05 team was better is becuz the OLine was filthy good. We could run the air outta the ball and protect the defense to certain extent by keeping them off the field.

And of course Palmer was ridiculously good that year, but I think Andy could perform comparably give an Oline and running game like that to work with. Plus Chad was never as dynamic of an all around WR as AJ is, but back then he was more explosive in the deep game. That was when he used to just smoke dudes and get wide open.

The reason I'd take that 05 team over this one is becuz I think that Oline was good enough to gash huge holes for Rudi to run thru and Palmer and CJ would get after this secondary as well. 2005>2012 imo.

The 2012 team is better for one reason and and one reason only. If we have kick a game winning field goal, we don't have to rely on Shane Graham.
